How do you avoid them? I always seem to make 1-2 every time.

Slap yourself really hard before you take your next test, and focus on this test like it was a test of life or ..death. You'll be so scared that you won't make another careless mistake again.

One thing you can do is circle or underline EACH key word, phrase, or number in the question before you proceed. By this, I mean key words such as "integer," "negative," "minutes," "must be true," etc.

Also, make sure to re-read the question (that is, the last sentence ending in a question mark) to make sure that you are answering the CORRECT question!

Another obvious tip is to SLOW DOWN. Many good math students like to speed through the math section, finishing it in under 15 or 20 minutes. This is a VERY bad approach. You are not rewarded with extra points for finishing early, so ALWAYS take the full 25 minutes (or 20 minutes) on the section. If you STILL have time left over, circle the questions you are not completely certain on and return to those and re-check your work with the time remaining.

Of course, slapping yourself really hard may also be effective, but then you may end up with a few bruises on your face by Test Day. :)

do every problem twice.. i had 15 minutes left so i did every problem over looking over key words and i realized i made a mistake on a really easy question.. it was like 7 out of 25 so thats how easy it was.

i got an 800. i used to make 1-2 but u just gotta focus ur ass off. it affected my verbal score tho caus i wore out in math sections. =(

I AM THE KING OF CARELESS ERRORS I GOT A 700 WITH WRONG ANSWERS ON PROBLEMS 4, 5, 5, and 6 and for a short answer one the answer was 1600 i bubbled 16....this was march by the way

reread the question before you finally mark your answer...

You can't expect to always blame it on careless errors. You might just miss some, because you don't know it.

"life or death" situation was my mindset, but under a remarkably calmer approach (as compared to my March sat experience)

690 => 800

actually the may math was 10X easier imo, so luck was involved as well
REST might be the key

yea right i dont know how to answer questions 4 5 5 and 6.....trust me they were careless errors
