Hey could someone shed some light on the Carey School of Business (for undergrad.) I'm interested in how it ranks among other programs and how hard it is to get in. Additional info is much appreciated too!

There have been a lot of discussions already about the Carey School of Business on CC so I suggest you search the thread. What you will learn is that the Carey School is quite new, incorporated in 2007. Prior to 2007, business programs at Johns Hopkins were offered through non-traditional, continuing education programs. At this time the programs at Carey are focused much more on the graduate and MBA level, both with full-time and part-time studies.

The undergraduate BS program can be described as non-traditional and more directed at adult students or part-time undergraduates. The biggest thing to note is that the undergraduate program is taught at the Columbia campus and is not associated with what is traditionally considered the undergraduate school of Johns Hopkins University (Homewood Campus – Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and Whiting School of Engineering). If you are a high school student looking for a full-time college enrollment experience studying business, then the Carey School is probably not the avenue you want to pursue. You can learn about their programs here: [Johns Hopkins Carey Business School BS Business Baltimore Columbia MD Montgomery County](http://carey.jhu.edu/our_programs/ugprogram/bs_business/index.html)
Do note that you can still pursue business as an interest at the Homewood Campus of Johns Hopkins University even though no business major is offered. There is an Economics major ([JHU Department of Economics : Undergraduate Program](http://www.econ.jhu.edu/undergrad-prog.html)) as well as business related programs through the Center for Leadership Education: [The Center for Leadership Education](<a href=“JHU Center for Leadership Education - Center for Leadership Education”>JHU Center for Leadership Education - Center for Leadership Education)

Thanks for that very detailed and informative response!

Glad I could help … this is one of the more frequently asked questions we get and many students are confused about the Carey school and its relation to the Homewood schools. GL

AdmissionsDaniel,

Do you know what JHU’s long term plan is for the program? Is there any interest in bringing a business major to Homewood?

No idea. As you may know there is a new dean of the Carey School and that may change some of the future plans. I know the main priority right now is the MBA program. Back when the school was incorporated there was discussion of a long term plan to start a more traditional undergraduate program but I have heard very little about that since 2008. If any plans are in the works it is a long term plan; read 10+ years (but that is just my prediction).

Hi AdmissionsDaniel,

I heard recently Carey Business School is setting up a new full-time undergrad program in Washington DC. It is a completion program and aims at transfer students. I checked their faculty list, most of them come from top-tier universities and have excellent backgrounds, do you think this undergrad program is more working for regular college students? Cause I saw you said the one in columbia used to be a non-traditional program for adult students.
