Cargo Shorts...Why all the hate?

I got most of my khaki shorts off the Target clearance rack for about $5 a piece.

Bad argument. Why don’t you just say they’re ugly? Otherwise, you’d be obligated to offend practically everyone, since most people casually wear Nike, Adidas, Vans, New Balance, converse, etc. What’s wrong with running shoes anyways? They’re far more comfortable and practical for walking and you can find running shoes that don’t look completely ridiculous. We’re talking about college students here…

When it’s slushy, snowing, or even rainy, those “casual sneakers” just won’t do. And when your college campus is very widespread and requires lots of walking and bus rides, running shoes are as comfortable (not to mention supportive) as it gets. I’m not trying to get a twisted ankle from walking in Toms all day or sore from flat-footed “casual sneakers.”

Must be a regional thing. Perfectly fine in the north (Boston, NY, etc) and quite common actually. They look fine provided that they aren’t super baggy.

What the hell…what planet do all you people live on? Cargo shorts are perfectly fine for college kids and I see people wearing them all the time. They are for casual wear, not for wearing to a job interview ffs.

Personally I think they’re gross. They fit everyone awkwardly, and no guy should need to carry that much stuff around on a regular basis. Like honestly what do you put in all of those pockets? And I like the look of khakis/chinos/whatever and t-shirts, but maybe it’s because that’s what all of my guy friends wear.

I think dressing up for class is an interesting subject, since I go to a school that’s notorious for people doing just that. Personally I like to follow that trend, because a) it makes me feel like I’m treating my education as my current job, and b) I like to shop, and want somewhere to wear all of my day dresses haha. Now that I’m in the habit of dressing up, I get tired of wearing tshirts and athletic shorts after awhile.

Just did some research on gogreek’s old posts. The dude goes to a “state school ranked in top 40,” got a 3.2 his freshman year, and plans to work for Goldman Sachs. That is a joke. Wharton and Harvard guys with 3.8’s are getting shut down year after year.

Go ahead and wear the cargo shorts, everybody.

^ Some people on here find a hobby in demeaning others and building themselves up past what’s reality

In my opinion they look childish and were only cool when you were younger so you could put toys, candy and crap like that in it. For a college-age male, most circumstances would require only two pockets for your cell phone and wallet. You have a backpack for everything else. Simply put, cargo shorts look unprofessional.

I agree, I mean cargo shorts aren’t the worst possible things that you could be wearing, but on some people they look a little childish.
But I think its tough for guys to find the right balance between looking presentable and looking like your mommy dressed you. Urban outfitters has a few nice pairs or you could try American eagle, but in my opinion, your beset would be a pair of fitted (not too tight!) khakis or nantucket reds. nd I just realized how long my rant on cargo shorts is, sorry!

when it comes to shoes SOME sneakers and running shoes look fine. I’d stay away from basketball shoes or anything that looks too flashy.

these, or something similar, look good and can go well with jeans and khakis

Id stay away from something like this:

http://www.buy-cheap-shoes.net/wp-content/plugins/wpshapeshiftr/images/cheap-nike-running-shoes.jpeg

I have a pair of very similar Nike shoes and I hate how they look with most of my clothes.

Back to the cargo debate. No it isn’t a regional thing. You see them everywhere in the U.S. and they look trashy everywhere in the U.S.

Just because a lot of kids wear them doesn’t make them ok to wear. A lot of college students wear Hollister, American Eagle, Abercrombie etc and those clothing brands usually look just as bad as cargo shorts.

Like I stated earlier I really don’t care what you wear, I’m just trying to give advice

Seriously? In my opinion, those shoes are hideous.

And no, they do not look trashy everywhere in the U.S., perhaps they look trashy to you but that does not apply to everyone. Come up to the Northeast area and I guarantee you will see cargo shorts everywhere.

No self respecting adult wears cargo shorts

Yes I would see them everywhere, and I would laugh to myself at them.

I see jean shorts everywhere in the south. So because a lot of people have horrible taste with clothes makes them less trashy? hardly.

Good Lord people, wear what you want! College is about independence and making decisions for yourself, so I think you can handle your own wardrobes.

Completely agree with you Skyline (Except in a business environment of course)

UKclassof13 - Insulting people or classifying people based on what they wear isn’t wise. Clothes only show so much of a person’s personality.

Your choice though I suppose, I choose to be open and not judge people based on what they wear.

The former shoes are ugly!

Ah, but you are being judged everyday. By strangers, by potential employers, by the homeless and by the rich. So it is natural to wear stuff makes you look favorable to those you are trying to impress. Thus, cargo shorts(most of the time) are a no-go. Besides, cargo shorts are ugly.

I’m not talking about grandpa’s white clunky tennis sneakers here…Ascis [Buy Mens ASICS GEL-3020 Running Shoe at Road Runner Sports](http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/products/ASC1432/) It may be that I’m a runner so I wear them a lot, but I don’t see anything wrong with wearing running shoes with khaki shorts

^ Agreed. Those look good with regular shorts. Those New Balance ones UKclassof13 was trying to pitch were hideous!

Hey, if you (or someone similar) want to judge me based solely on what I wear, then go ahead. But I really have no interest in being liked or liking someone who is that short sighted and judgmental. So I guess I am willing to risk it.
