Caribbean M.D. vs. US D.O.

Hi all,
What do you think is better, a M.D. from Ross Medical School in Dominica, or a D.O. From Lake Erie College of Osteopathic medicine? I got accepted to a 7-year program with the choice of either of them.

<a href="http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=204792%5B/url%5D">http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=204792</a></p>

If I were you, I'd find out the difference between the two and pick based on which one I want to be.

im assuming you already know the difference between D.O. and M.D.
definitely Lake Erie in this case, since you need to consider your residency future.
make sure you will be absolutely satisfied in going into either one
just in restrospect, i think probably doing traditional isnt too bad of an option.
PM me if you have any more questions

I would go to either. Both DO and CaribMD are regarded as backup plans, something you resort to when premed doesn't work out. They're not something you should lock yourself into before you even start premed.

But, to answer your question, I'd take the DO program.

definitely take the DO program.

1) You are not considered IMG.
2) You do not have to take the USMLE unless you want to enter MD residencies.
3) They have their own set of residencies so you will not have any trouble.
4) You get to be a doctor regardless.

If you must choose -- and NCG is right that that's not sensible right now -- but if you must choose, then take the DO. No question. Not even remotely close.

btw all that info. in my post i took from BDM.

being an IMG is way too risky in my opinion. especially if you have the oportunity to study here.
