Carleton 2023 RD

Anyone flying out to Accepted Student Day 2?

Other comparably ranked schools offered to fly me out all-expenses-paid, but visiting Carleton is well worth the flight ticket.

What are the dates for the second accepted student day?

@homerdog April 18-19th.

I remember your son was accepted to Bowdoin. If you’re visiting Bowdoin, their Open House is April 11th - 12th (can stay both days in an overnight or visit for only a day). Carleton’s first Accepted Student Day is also April 11th - 12th.

So, the second one is the only option (unless you want to skip Bowdoin)

@Neurotic2027 right. We are going to Bowdoin. Tickets booked. If we go to Carleton it will indeed be the second option.

@homerdog Likewise. While this is not a bad situation to be in, my Williams’ Open House overlaps with Carleton’s, so I likely won’t attend Carleton’s Admitted Students day. I sent them an email and hopefully it would be possible for them to accomodate for me a few days later than the admitted days.

@Neurotic2027 yeah. I really would rather him go to real admitted student days but that’s not going to work for some schools. He may want to see Davidson too but they are the 5th but we don’t want to make those reservations until he hears from two other schools and then that’s only a nine day advance ticket to Charlotte and it will be prohibitively expensive. So he would have to find another time to go later in April.

See, this is where not getting into every school is a blessing! No way we could visit them all (again) with all the Senior year activities going on (and us being so far away too)! Thank you Carleton for simplifying our April!

@pn24601 lol–that waitlist at Carleton meant we could fit Oberlin into our early April trip, which, in turn, means S will have time to make a return visit to Hamilton later in the month…looking for bright sides

DD has been accepted with a very generous FA package.

D19 (35 ACT/4.0uw GPA) was waitlisted – congratulations to all those accepted!

Has anyone received their letter in the mail yet?

@bioastronAJ just got the big envelope today.

@homerdog I’ve been checking my mailbox twice a day and nothing has come in

Probably not what you’re looking for, @bioastronAJ but the waitlist letter also arrived for us yesterday.

@bioastronAJ we are in Chicago so close to MN and got it yesterday. If you live farther away, it just takes longer. I’m sure you will get it soon.

@bioastronAJ my kid got the acceptance packet yesterday (we live in Washington DC). Not too much in it that isn’t visible on the portal but still was good to see it on actual paper.

Thanks y’all, I just got it in the mail today! I was just a bit worried because I also live in Chicago and even after being accepted I still get anxious haha

My daughter got her big acceptance envelope today (WA state). She was admitted ED2 to another school, but that school is stalling like crazy about financial aid, so she may end up at Carleton after all. Carleton offered her a stunning amount of financial aid—almost a full ride.

@Creaky Wasn’t the ED2 to another school binding? Shouldn’t this application have been withdrawn? Was this fair to other students who applied?

Interesting… My daughter was not wanting to apply ED to any school because of the risk of financially having to pay for a school if they didn’t come through with sufficient aid. We were told to not apply ED unless we were prepared to pay the full cost. I didn’t think you could negotiate in ED. Too bad… she might have applied ED to Carleton if we had known that. Instead she got waitlisted through RD.
