which school do you think is better and why? because of a certain major/student body/the "name"/ etc?

Well Dartmouth is the most prestigious, but Bowdoin and Carleton don't have bad reps. It's hard to say which one is better. I personally like Bowdoin the most since I'm into smaller colleges, but it's all about personal opinion.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Carleton is less preppy than the other two (midwest atmosphere).

Visit the colleges if you can, then you'll get a better feel of which is a good fit. I read somewhere though that Dartmouth students are the happiest among the Ivies. Of course getting into Dartmouth is tougher than the other two but I'm sure you're qualified considering that it is on your list.

Carleton is somewhat different in feel than Dartmouth and Bowdoin.

Bowdoin is the smallest interms of enrollement.

Dartmouth Plan is good for those who want to secure internships, etc...

All of them are great schools, it just depends on which fits you best.

Dartmouth does the best amongst these three in terms of graduate placement and recruiting, and its reputation is the strongest. Dartmouth is on par with Amherst and Williams among the LACs, which are all slightly more prestigious that Carleton and Bowdoin.

Bowdoin has excellent food and housing. :D

The student bodies at Dartmouth and Carleton are very different. Dartmouth and Bowdoin are much closer to the same envornment.

dartmouth has an ugly ass campus

I’m from Northern Wisconsin, 2-3 hours from Carleton. I’d choose Dartmouth in a heartbeat. I feel like Carleton is more highly regraded on the East Coast than it actually is in the Midwest. Maybe other Midwesterners from larger cities can share their perspectives, though.

“Better” isn’t the right word-it’s all about fit. S visited Carleton and Bowdoin. They are both great schools and quite different in terms of the predominant culture or ‘vibe.’ What are you looking for? What do you plan to study?

I got into both Carleton and Bowdoin (rejected from Dartmouth though lol) and I chose Carleton. I liked the midwestern feel at Carleton (I’m a native Minnesotan) and Carleton seemed more “intellectual” while Bowdoin seemed more preppy and athletic. Also, Carleton has awesome physics and chemistry programs, which is appealing to a prospective chemistry major like myself.
