same was with me fsa1...no email..no postcard..but on march 28 i got a mail which informed me that i was waitlisted!

recieved my letter today ive been waitlisted as well. After hearing all the cool things about Carleton on this forum and elsewhere i am extremly dissapointed. Well anyways congratulations to all those accepted. And also a request to all those who choose not to go to decline their offer as soon as they can, to give the waitlisted people a chance.

Man, the waitlist has been a massacre this year... I'm sooo sorry to everyone who was waitlisted and I hope good news will be in the mailbox soon!

Waitlisted..I saw the small letter and was like bad news....also rejected by Bowdoin.

I'm accepted...a kind of strange feeling. Carleton was sort of a semi-match for me; I visited this year at their Taste of Carleton event and was a little ambiguous about the school (campus was TINY, food HORRIBLE, but people FRIENDLY).

The sad thing is a friend of mine who REALLY REALLY wanted to go to Carleton was waitlisted. :( Now I'm kinda..."damn, maybe if I hadn't applied"

I got in too... international student... living in singapore.....
Hey to everyone frm singapore planning to got there.... Carleton is not that famous right... i mean in singapore or anywhere outside the US? Are you guys reallly planning to go there cos my parents are worried i will be screwed if i go to carleton cos i wont get a job after that....

Do you guys have any idea which is better... in terms of grad school/ job opportunities/brand name/ education/general environment: LSE (london school of economics) or carleton...

Also i am confused between physics and econs and which one i want to study... any thoughts?

I'm definitely going there. Carleton might not be famous among Singaporeans but fame is a different thing from quality. Carleton definitely offers better education than European unis like LSE (except Oxbridge) which tend to be more focused on postgrad than undergrad. LACs, especially top ones like Carleton are known for providing an excellent undergraduate experience, both academically and socially, as well as a better preparation for grad school, if you're planning to do that. Otherwise, your options are still very open to you as a Carleton graduate. It's not prestigious like HYP but it's definitely recognised as a top quality institution.

Can't tell you what to major in though. That's for you to decide. But one more thing LACs are good for is the liberal curriculum which allows to sample all sorts of courses before you get to make an informed decision. Carleton students only declare their major at the end of their sophomore year so there's ample time to explore and make up your mind.

no i didnt mean "famous" like a degree you can show off with... but rather a degree you can get a job with

I mean in terms of education carleton is possibly better... however I am rather uneasy about the job prospects after carleton... In my case I would have to pay my parents back after college education... or grad school... though I am 99.99% certain i would be going to a grad school (0.01% reseved for if I get kicked out of college or smth lolz)... so in terms of that i am a bit confused...

oh forgot to mention (how rude of me)... thankyou for sharing your opinion quaskx

it depends where you want to go to graduate school. In the United States, Carleton is considered one of the best liberal arts colleges, thus many students from Carleton end up attending excellent graduate programs.

hey guys,

so i'm deciding b/w carleton and one other school right now, and I was wondering if there was a class of 2011 Facebook group for carleton? I was almost sure there would be, but I can't find it... can somebody post it?

thanks

lol... nevermind my above comment, i found it

have 2 questions...
does anyone know if we can double major at carleton?...
and is there anyone from any of the UWCs here...

Yes, you can double major at Carleton. It's not particularly common because managing a comprehensive project for each major (each of which is typically spread out over two terms), meeting the requirements for both majors in addition to general distribution requirements, and fitting in off-campus study (as most students want to do) requires a lot of planning and limits your electives heavily. Math or computer science are probably the easiest majors to have as one of your doubles, since their major requirements are pretty easy and you can come in with a lot of placement. Majoring in two non-quantitative disciples is rare, though having a concentration in a subject related to your major is common.

if people double major... and work okish hard... not superhard... not like without sleeping.. eating etc.. what would you say their grades would be when they get out of carleton... you see i am confused between economics and physics... so i was hoping i could double major in those...

To an earlier question - yes, there are several students from UWCs at Carleton. This year's freshman class has at least 10, I think.

yeay!!! <to the="" uwc="" thing=""> cos i'm frm uwc... always nice to meet alums</to>

What is UWC?

this might be a silly question, but how does one pay the $200 deposit? Do you just mail the cash together with the required documents, or what? I can't find instructions anywhere.

You just mail the $200 deposit with the enrollment agreement and the candidates reply form. I don't know if international students received more documents or something because I'm domestic. You might have to mail more forms.
