Again, I cannot emphasize how grateful I am, yet I am extremely bittersweet about this whole thing.

Waitlisted in CA… Really wanted this one…

Got wait listed…I really liked Carleton…

Rejected in oklahoma.

Carleton was #2 on list, and accepted to first choice, so all is good.
Best of luck to everyone.

Waitlisted.

@sammythang1234 why do you say it was undeserved? Your SAT is within the range, APs were numerous. Were you looking for FA?

Well, according to the status update, I got in! Carleton is one of my top choices!! So excited.

Yip! They are up online!!!

Dear Joe,

I am delighted to offer you admission to Carleton College. Your application, superior record, and the enthusiastic recommendations written on your behalf convinced the Admissions Committee that you will not only do well here academically, but also make substantial contributions to student life.

Does everyone’s letter read like this?

My son’s letter says the same thing.

@Joe2015 Had a pretty terrible sophomore year but made up for it in junior and senior years, and I got aid. Guess it was a gutsy, albeit unique essay, geography, good letters of rec, and mostly extracurriculars. I feel like this school places a huge emphasis on personal character and achievements rather than objective data, which is something I value and appreciate.

As I did with Grinnell, I’m having a tough time explaining what Carleton is comparable to in terms of non-LAC colleges or possible overlap schools with non-LACs, so if anyone has suggestions that’d be great.

got rejected today (new york).

congrats to those who are accepted.

Rejected.

@sammythang1234‌ Good LACs are comparable–if not better–at producing PhDs. See the lists at this site:

http://www.thecollegesolution.com/the-colleges-where-phds-get-their-start/

And they’re better at actual teaching and personalized attention for the student. Look at the UChi vs. Carleton thread on this board for an example. My older kid is a Carleton alum and attended graduate school at one of the HYPS. He found a huge difference between getting a hold of and having time with his professors. Of course, some of that was due to the difference between undergrad and grad school, but prestigious universities hire faculty for their research, not their teaching.

And although most people have never heard of Carleton (or Grinnell or Reed), people in academia have–and tend to be very impressed by students who’ve earned a degree from one them.

Congrats on your acceptance (and trust that the adcoms know what they’re doing) and good luck with your decision!

wailisted yet don’t even care because i am accepted at UCLA

I didn’t even know decisions came out until I got my acceptance packet today in the mail…oops

@Joe2015 – you should call Carleton’s Financial Aid office to ask them about your corporate NMF award and the $2K/year thing. Congrats on getting into Carleton!
