Down to these 2 colleges, and I'm having a really hard time deciding. Both gave relatively the same financial aid, so money is not the factor in this decision. What do you guys think??

I’d pick Carleton, for a more intellectual atmosphere and intimate relation with profs. but have to admit I know nearly nothing about ND. I do know the prof of Pomona’s kid turned down Harvard for Carleton, so you will be in good company if you are really academic and want a personal experience. Those are 2 weird choices I wouldn’t expect.

What are the pros and cons from your perspective? Both schools are terrific choices for the right person and fit is highly personal. What do you plan to study? What are your professional goals? How strong is each in these areas? How do you feel about the relative size of the schools? How do you feel about Carleton’s rural location - is that a plus or minus? Does the weather matter? Is the ‘big sports’ culture or the Catholic culture at Notre Dame at plus or a minus? How do you feel about Carleton’s less pre-professional orientation? Would you join a frat or sorority? (Carleton doesn’t have any.)

The better you know yourself and what you value, the more likely it is that you will make the right choice.

I just posted this one to “CCs Most Fascinating College Choices 2012 (3rd ed.)”.

These are two very different schools. Other than having high magazine rankings, and the midwestern locations, what’s the common thread?
