Thanks guys, I’ve quit trying to figure out what these places are looking for, it seems so arbitrary at times. What one admissions person likes, the next doesn’t… She’s got the best fall back she can have, and Princeton and Cornell to go so we’re not stressing about any of it. It’s more frustrating for me than her, but it’ll all be done with soon enough. Good luck to you all!
@ShredderRob If it’s any consolation, I have similar stats to your daughter—35 ACT, 3.93 GPA, 11 APs, I went to a very well known, renowned private school, etc, etc—while I may have been accepted to Carleton, I was rejected from Haverford and waitlisted at Davidson even after being accepted to schools such as Swarthmore, MIT, Georgetown, and now Carleton, and I have likely letters from Yale and Brown. So, it was quite surprising when I was rejected from Haverford/WL at Davidson. I have no doubt your D will get into some wonderful places. I think we can all agree than college admissions are a complete gamble, and often times the results are very unexpected. Best of luck to you and your D!
Congratulations to those who got the offer. I wonder if any of you received more info on top of the acceptance package. We are going to revisit Carleton the weekend of April 19. Any suggestions and information are welcome and appreciated.
I found your information very helpful. Where can I find the dates for 2018-2019 school year? Thanks in advance.

The Carleton Financial Aid Office is filled with wonderful, responsive, lovely people. We initially didn’t get a financial aid package with my son’s acceptance as they needed more information. We had a package within three days of submitting the additional info and it puts Carleton within reach. It is such a delight to work with these folks and we really hope our son’s visit goes well on Admitted Student Days because we REALLY want him to say “yes” to Carleton!
@pcmom1 Thanks. Saved.
@mom2twoteens I was also accepted but have not received any info about admitted day. Did you get an email?
@Cariar the info about admitted day was in the mailed packet. I think a few people have posted the link to the dates so you can check it out if your snail mail delivery is slow.
Your rejection from Haverford and waitlist at Davidson might have been yield protection because you were overqualified so the adcom knew you weren’t likely to enroll. But you have great options so no worries!
No, he wasn’t.
I’m curious whether any of y’all went to Admitted Students Days this week and what you thought …
My D got back at midnight last night from admitted student days and absolutely adored it. She’s pretty close to committing and it wasn’t originally in her top 3. She loved the friendliness of the campus and the people. If you have specific questions feel free to ask.
That’s great, @caspiancat and not surprising. I’m not a prospective parent; ds1 graduated years ago. I was just wondering whether what held true for us still holds true today – that a visit to campus solidifies that it’s the right place for some people. Have you been to the campus yourself?
@“Youdon’tsay” thanks for your encouragement. No, unfortunately I was unable to visit so have not seen campus myself. Carleton entered my daughter’s radar late in the game so it’s one of the few schools she applied to that we hadn’t visited. She is planning on visiting Bowdoin as well in the next two weeks.
Anyone here going to Carleton this week?
My D went to Accepted Student Days last week (glad we missed the storm the weekend before). She spent the night at Nourse Hall Thursday and attended several classes Friday while my wife and I went to various parent sessions. She met students who had been admitted to several other high end LACs and they all agreed that the profs in their various classes were amazing. My D usually holds her cards close to the vest but she was visibly excited about the school as we left. By the time we got home she decided that CC was where she wanted to go and she will be attending in the fall.
My D has also decided to attend CC and is turning down Bowdoin and Vanderbilt among others. She is still on the waitlist for Pomona and would have a huge dilemma if she ended up receiving an offer there. She loved her visit there and made connections with a few other applicants she has stayed in touch with. It really seems like a gem of a school and she is happy to have found a fantastic fit. @Sting135 Congrats to your D for finding a great fit as well! Carleton was a bit of a sleeper school for my daughter when she applied but the visit to campus made all the difference.
