<p>Oh, and no one knows Bowdoin or Haverford either unless they really know colleges. But everyone knows Vassar.</p>
<p>Not everyone, adigal! I thought so too until my daughter applied last year. People in central Kentucky had no clue whatsoever about Vassar, unless they were really up on colleges. Sad, but true.</p>
<p>Sadly, Hindoo's right. I live in a large, urban area in Ohio, and outside of students/parents/faculty at my high school, few people here have heard of Vassar. Around here, the only well-known LAC is Oberlin.</p>
<p>one of my best friends at Vassar was from Louisville and another from Nashville and I was from the NE. Most men who go to Vassar better get used to people saying "but isn't that a girls school?" Vassar's early reputation was built on being a premier all female college and although it went coed in 1969, I still hear that comment a lot, so be prepared.</p>
<p>And then there's that.</p>
