Carlson program

Has anyone here been through the Carlson program? (Finance department esp.)

I'm trying to decided whether to attend IT or Carlson. I have interests in both engineering(chem) and business(finance/econ). I know it is logical to study engineering then get a MBA, but not business first then engineering.

I'm a finance major at Carlson. I recently transferred there from CLA. In my opinion, a decision like that really depends on what you'd like to see yourself doing after graduation. Both schools are competitive, and both have excellent reputations. Either way you're going to get a great degree.

Carlson has an awesome recruiting department. There are jobs and internships with virtually every large company in the twin cities, and they're only available to Carlson students. Every other college on campus uses a university wide job search engine called GoldPass, while Carlson has it's own.

Beyond that, they just put up a brand new building (Hanson Hall) which is opening in Fall 2008. It's connected by skyway to the old Carlson building and was built for the sole purpose of housing the undergraduate business program. This building is also going to house the econ department going forward. So if you're thinking of a business/econ combination, it would be really convenient to have it all in the same place.

What are your future plans after graduation? and what other programs are you considering?

Well I plan to work right out of colllege as a finance major, and then get an MBA.

In what city do you want to work?

that does not matter to me at all to be honest. I'll go where ever doors are open.

It kind of seems like you answered your own question by saying that you wanted to work as a finance major after graduation. Your only way to do that would be through Carlson. You can also try asking about IT degrees and business in the business forums. I'm sure someone has asked the same question before so trying a search may be worth your time.

hi, i am also in the CLA now. and planning to go to Carlson too. so could you tell me how it works and some details? thx

Hi sumsung:

I just saw your post now. I'm sorry it took me so long (I don't always log in to this website on a regular basis). I'll be happy to answer your questions about transferring from CLA to CSOM. What do you want to know?

If you don't mind me asking, what are your stats like? I will tell you that it's really tough to transfer into Carlson (it's much easier to get accepted as a freshman). They only took a total of 175 transfer students in Fall 2008, and something like 1200 transfer students applied.

Preparing to apply to Carlson was a long, tough road for me; but I'm happy to say it was well worth it. Let me know how I can help :)
