I have got into both businesses school and do not know which one I should attend. Most people tell me Carlson because ASU has a bad rep but I got into the Barrett Honors college at ASU and their Leaders academy. I am wondering which one will offer me more internships and opportunities in the long run? I plan to major in MIS (Minnesota is ranked 3rd while ASU is 15th). If I go to Minnesota I walk in with a lot of credits and I get to minor in CS. If I go to ASU I am confident I will be clearly at the top while at Minnesota I may be just better than average. Thank you in advance!
P.S Financial Aid is not a factor.
It looks like you prefer ASU. Go there. You will be happy about that choice when winter comes along and you aren’t in Minnesota.
At Minnesota, you’ll have more students that you’ll relate to intellectually. Don’t take the easy road, I’d advise Carlson where strong student will get more out of it.
Do you have any sense of what you want to do or where you want to live after college? State school business degrees carry the most weight in that state and in that region – bc that’s where most of your alumni are; the region in which you’re located is also most likely the region in which you’ll do summer internships etc. so you’re more likely to get an offer after one of those. Minneapolis is a thriving city, which year after year ends up on the lists of best cities for young grads etc. And with the upswing after this latest recession, the Midwest/upper Midwest is thriving; though Minneapolis and the Midwest aren’t for everyone. ASU would allow you more opportunities in Arizona and SoCal.
If location doesn’t matter to you – make sure you find and pay attention to the employment statistics for both business schools; if one school has recruiting that is by far and away better, you really ought to go there.
@aj725 I would like to live in a warm climate so I was thinking about ASU but people tell me that recruiters come from all over the US so if I want a job in the West I can get one by going to ASU or Minnesota.
@wayneandgarth that is what I was thinking of if I went to Carlson
Oh I also got into Penn State’s businesses school but tht isnt ranked for MIS in usnews (except in recruiter preference)

I didnt consider this school at first bc it wasnt ranked for MIS but stats look good for this major at PSU.
If you want warm weather, ASU Barrett + Leadership academy would be a good choice.
Penn State vs. UMN-Twin cities: it’ll be cold, colder in MN obviously, but pretty snowy in State College. The big difference here is that UMN-Twin Cities is, obviously, in the Cities, whereas Penn State is in a college town.
