Wondering about some people’s thoughts on my chances of accepteance into Carlson?

I participated in Carlson’s Women Mean Business Program last summer as well.
I took 1 AP Class Junior Year, and I am currently taking 3 my Senior Year. My school does not offer many AP classes, or additional clubs to join for extracurriculars. I completed the common app, did the additional essays, as well as submitted letters of recommendation.
My Senior year first quarter GPA (weighted): 4.078
Should I consider sending an updated transcript to Carlson? I applied 6 weeks ago and still have no heard a thing, while most of my friends applying to Carlson have.
Does anyone have any input on my chances of acceptance?
yes, send in an updated transcript to Carlson if it shows a positive upward trend in your grades. Esp. since you are taking a tougher course-load as a senior (with three AP’s). Have you taken (or are taking) Bio, Chem, and Physics?
@Muad_dib what makes you say so? Just out of curiosity! Which part of the stats makes it a reach? I know the GPA is a little lower than last year’s admitted profile, but everything else seems to be within or near range.
Here are this fall’s enrolled stats for ACT, class rank and gender (see below). Your ACT is right where it needs to be. The class rank is outside the 25th percentile so a tad “reach’y” there. However, your positive GPA trend despite more rigorous coursework will undoubtedly offset that, at least to some extent.
Concerning your friends who have already heard back, do you have an idea on how your stats compare to theirs? That should give you quite a bit of insight on your prospects, assuming they attend the same school. Otherwise, don’t worry too much at this stage because it’s still early on. UMN typically starts with the very strongest applications first (test scores above the 75th, near perfect GPA) and works down from there.
Also, while stats and coursework are the primary factors for consideration, secondary aspects such as the rec. letters, essays, and the fact that you were selected for Women Mean Business (esp. if it was a competitive admissions process) could help push your application in the right direction. You can see from the last link that they have a reason to encourage women to consider Carlson, esp. women interested in Math and STEM.
I applied to CSOM on October 19th. And received my acceptance on November 10th.
My academic stats:
ACT: 30
GPA: 3.78 UW
I do PSEO at the U of M currently (maybe why I got my decision faster)
DECA Chapter Officer
Found a club at my high school
…and many other Extra Curriculars
I think that if you had a strong application and did well in your AP Classes and honors/enriched courses you have a good chance of making it!
Also you have leadership involvement in your dance teams and with your involvement it shows your a dedicated person.
I don’t think that you should worry too much. I hope you placed CLA as your second option this way you can transfer colleges if you don’t make it
Good luck!
CLA is a great second option for those interested in related fields (econ, for instance) and there is always the Business Minor through Carlson. Transferring into Carlson from another college on the Twin Cities campus (ie an intra-collegiate transfer) may not be so easy - it is possible, as they accept about 150 or so per year (and another 70 from other campuses or outside UMN), but I’ve heard you have a better chance being admitted as a freshman than as a transfer. So expect the chances to be lower than getting into Carlson in the first place, all else equal. Of course, if you hit your classes out of the ballpark in CLA your first year, then you have a decent shot. Be sure to follow these directions very carefully and expect to take Econ and Calc. - at minimum - your first year: https://carlsonschool.umn.edu/degrees/undergraduate/admissions/transfer-students
If you are admitted to your second choice college, try to figure out not only what your new Plan A should be (for instance, transferring to Carlson from CLA) but also what is an acceptable Plan B in case Plan A doesn’t materialize (for instance, major/double major in something in CLA, minor in Business). And keep in mind that CFANS also provides a major in the areas of business so Carlson is not your only business option.
