I really like Carman coz of the AC and how it is more sociable.
However, John jay sounds so much more convenient with all the cafeteria and stuff.

Does it get really hot sometimes that you need AC bad? or super cold?
I tend to study in the library so I don't think living in Carman will disrupt me from studying.

and I won't really say I am introverted but I am not that extroverted either. Maybe in the middle to more extroverted.
(I can't introduce myself to strangers but when I get to know them, I get really friendly loud and stuff)

Any tips, ideas, suggestions?
I am looking at the dorm threads but I still can't make up my mind.

*I think I am appointed as a rabi scholar. does that mean my dorm is somewhere else? or do I get the john jay carman llc choice like everybody else does?

You won’t have a BAD experience in either dorm. I think with Carman you have to be a little more forgiving with the negatives of drunk college students.

John Jay may be a little more quiet, but I had a very social floor which compares well to whatever claims of sociability carman may have. Also, why pass up the opportunity to have a single your freshman year? You probably won’t have one again until Junior or senior year.

I’m in John Jay and im glad i chose it over Carman. Its great to have your own space when you need it and its not lonely/anti-social as some people make it out to be …at least not on this floor anyways.
Oh and you won’t need the AC for most of the year…it was pretty hot in John Jay for like the last part of August and maybe some of september when I came after that having an AC becomes irrelevant until I guess closer to summer…I definitely would not be using an AC today if i had one…

My floor in JJ was somewhat anti-social, but I appreciate the privacy of my single and the convenience of the cafeteria. No A/C is a *****, though, for the first (and last) month of the year. You absolutely need to get a fan (or two). Otherwise, it’s really not a problem.

@ragna93 I am having the same problem! I’m not openly in-your-face social either, but I’m not completely introverted. I want the “college experience” of having a roommate and being in a loud and crazy dorm, but being so close to everything makes JJ seem better. I know this sounds stupid and anal, but choosing a dorm is almost as hard as buying a house…

The distance between John Jay and Carman is hardly significant. They’re about a minute apart from one another, and while John Jay is closer to John Jay Dining Hall (obviously) and Hamilton, Carman is closer to Lerner (the student center). They’re about equidistant from Butler (the library). But seriously, everything is super-close to everything else on campus, especially South Lawn (where the frosh dorms are).

One BIG REASON I cannot give up john jay is that in the winter, you can wear your pajamas and go down to get snacks and stuff. I just want that experience so bad.

Also, I heard from my friend who did summer program in columbia that john jay DOES have an AC. Who is right?
