I got waitlisted and "offered" priority waitlist spot. Did everyone waitlisted get this thing?

yea i got it for both tepper and hss

CMU sent me a mail which says I am offered for the waiting list. Is that mean I got waitlisted for all colleges?? the letter only talks about MCS. what will happen for other colleges?

* Why you think you were accepted/wait-listed/denied: Probably because of my SAT scores, not good enough math-wise? Oh I got a 610 on Physics.. that probably hurt.
* Attending? Nope. I have already decided on UMD - College Park where I'll be going w/ a full tuition scholarship.

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Read above :P

Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Congrats to acceptances, good luck to waitlistee's, sorry to rejections. It's okay, I'm fine with being rejected due to the fact I've been accepted to UMich (in-state), Emory, and NYU Stern. :). Not going to lie though, I'm kind of surprised I didn't get in o.O

waitlist.

[begin rant]
so much for a holistic application process. Almost all of my significant extracurricular activities involved EE, research at NASA in EE, research at JLab in EE, created my own preamps, independent circuit theory study, and I get waitlisted for everything BUT ECE, which they cannot offer me at all. o_0?? did they even read my application?! No, I don't think they did. At this point, I have lost faith in the system. I don't have strait A's (3.52 GPA), but I have passionate EC's that very few people have and good test scores. I hoped that the fact that I spent my spare time doing something I love and not stuffing my face in books all night might make up for it, but apparently not. Or maybe its just that I am a lower-middle class white male...

[/end rant]

rejected to tepper, SCS, CIT

kinda confused, and shocked

I dont see anything in the decision column... What does that mean?

Yay for the FIRST Judge's Award (zkevin).

it's probably cause you're a middle class white male, ehiunno. i still haven't heard from cmu.

Is it just me or does it look like they sent out acceptances first, then waitlists/rejections? (looking at the trend of this thread)

Decision: Accepted to HSS and MCS (Science and Humanities Scholar)

Stats:

SAT I or ACT: 800 CR, 710 M, 770 W

SAT IIs: 750 Lit., 780 Math IIC, 730 Bio M

GPA: 3.87 UW

Rank: Top 3%

APs/IBs: 5 on Bio, taking Physics, French, English, and Calc in May

Other stats (Awards, etc.): Various academic and athletic awards from my school, National Merit Commended Student, Girl Scout Silver Award

Subjective:

ECs: Varsity Volleyball and Lacrosse, 12 years of Dance, Girl Scouts, Aquarium Volunteer

Job/Work Experience: Internship at biomedical company last summer

Essays: Pretty good, I think.

Recs: Didn't read the teacher ones, but my guidance counselor one was great.

Location/Person:

State or Country: PA

School Type: Public

Ethnicity: White

Gender: Female

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None at all!

Strengths/Weaknesses: Pretty well rounded, diverse interests / I'm probably the most unhooked person ever

Why you think you were accepted/wait-listed/denied: See strengths

Attending? Hmm...I'm deciding between CMU, Vassar, Tufts, and Wesleyan if I get in. Add BU and McGill in the mix if none of the above give me any money.

mellow, maybe the people who were rejected or waitlisted didn't want to post amongst all of the acceptances? i doubt any college would be so cruel as to send out waves based on the decision.

Decision: Waitlisted to CMS (Mathematics)
Given option of priority waitlist not sure if this is selective or opted to all but i got it (small consolation prize)

anyways, wondering if anyone could bounce back some reasons for not being admitted to one of the easier CMU schools ???

Here are my academic stats:

SAT I: 790 M; 730 V; 700 W (11 essay)
SAT IIs: 760 M2; 690 Chem; high600s-low700s Lit
4s on AP Psych and Gov't
IB Diploma Candidate
GPA: 4.0 uw; 4.67w (best possible gpa for courses taken)
most rigorous academic courseload available

ECs: Varsity Soccer; Fellowship of Christian Athletes Finance Officer; teach fourth-graders life lessons through Students Organized for Developing Attitudes (SODA); coached an 11 & 12 yr. old soccer team; several other community service hr clubs (Beta NHS)

Recs: didnt read but based on who... assume to be solid

Essay: this probably wasnt extra, fantastic, or creative but couldnt have been a negative b/c i write very well

Other:
attend a brand new state-of-the-art public HS in VA
White Male but neither parents attended 4yr university (mother 2yr and father thru military)

Rejected from HSS and Tepper

Anyone who got waitlist. Can you post your waitlist letter? priority waitlist and normal waitlist. I want to see the different./

I still didn't get anything but I know that I am rejected

anyways, wondering if anyone could bounce back some reasons for not being admitted to one of the easier CMU schools ???
[/quote]

Well, the number of applicants has been going up at a 20 % annual rate for, I guess, two years in a row now. Considering that the number of candidates who may be admitted grows much more slowly, simple math suggests that, if the trend continues, CMU will become increasingly more selective. In fact, if CMU were not such a low yield and relatively poorly endowed institution, it could actually afford to be even more selective.

People who got rejected to HSS please post your stats, as I will be rejected too.

this is ridiculous, i have to wait for 3 months for someone to tell me NO, why not know it from the beginning, I'm starting to really hate myself for all this college ****, I wish i didn't know about all of this and just went to some stupid university and gave it all up, I don't think if i got accepted it will be worth it anyways, and I will be rejected because I have nothing impressive and because I lived in a sick country called Saudi Arabia my whole life and didn't know about Ivy League until last year, how do they expect someone like me to compare to all other cmu applicants? *sigh
I really wish I can go kill myself
