Carnegie Mellon 2011 RD Decisions

Just a reminder, this is one good time to post stats, even if you don't get in. Future applicants reference these to get an idea where they might stand. Most other schools have a standard cc template. Good luck to all!

san jose ten char

I got acceptance letter today to SCS and CIT. I live in New Mexico.
I am so excited...going to visit campus soon.

Stats:
Grades: 4.0 weighted ~3.6 unweighted
SAT: Math:740 English:730 Writing: 710
SAT II: math2: 740 Literature: 730 Physics: 710
ACT: 35 composite, 35 math, 33 english, 36 science, 35 soc. stu., 30 writing

I am so glad to have gotten in to the SCS. ever since i got rejected at MIT, I had been worried. I was leaning more towards CMU anyways because I think it has a better diverse community.

Btw, on my "Where am I..." page, it does not show that a letter has been sent or the decision. I'm glad I got the letter today, as I'm going on vacation for Spring Break next week.
Best of luck to everyone who hasn't heard yet, and congrats to people who got their FAT letters. :)

banerjee- Do you mean that they said the offer acceptance to 50 people off the waitlist? Generally, the freshman class is 130-140 people, and I think they offer admission to at least 300...

I know someone who was admitted to SCS off of the waitlist 2 years ago, so it does happen, although it does mean you'll have bad housing for awhile.

when are the admission letters postmarked? the 22nd?

tomshaq: what are your other stats? (mine are similar, and I am on pins and needles wondering if I got in or not)
...you can PM them to me, if you don't want to share online

Has Anyone Got Accepted Into Cfa Yet??

In at SCS, CIT (ece) and MCS.

GPA: 3.85 unweighted, 4.2ish weighted
SAT: 2250
SAT II: 800 math 2, 800 physics
decent extracurriculars.

Idamayer, what stats specifically would you be interested in? I don't mind putting them online.

Additional Stats:
attended non-competitive high school in albuquerque, new mexico
ECS: not great, not too involved with school sponsored activities and community service. Most of my ECs are programming/robotics related because thats what i enjoy doing.
Essays: okay, but I am not a great writer(as reflected by my 9 on the SAT essay and my 8 on the ACT version). I did spend quite some time on them.

Im not sure what else you want to see. let me know and i will be more specific/ post more.

tomshaq:
huh... I don't know... What do you think was the strongest point of your application?

I'm worried that I might not have been accepted! Anyone get straight rejected yet?

no.....gah. could it be going alphabetically? or is that a ridiculous notion?

I think the batches thing is most likely true. Because, yeah, like someone else said, most of the acceptees have been applicants to more than one school. Perhaps they're sending those out first....gah.
I don't know-maybe it's wishful thinking on my part.

I believe they do send them out in batches. From what I've gathered from reading the decision threads from 2006 & 2005, the first one is mostly acceptances, although there are a few rejections. Some acceptances are from people who applied to two or more schools, but some aren't (so probably no pattern there).

The next batches will have the waitlisted and rejected students, with some acceptances sprinkled in. Those who were waitlisted started to hear around March 30th-April 1st last year.

Because of the high caliber of CC students and the fact that people who just got rejected aren't likely to go bragging about it on an online forum, it's hard to get a representative sample of each batch.

If I don't receive anything Monday I'm going to assume that I wasn't in the first batch and that I'm probably waitlisted. shrugs

^^^
Good one, I believe in that too, but it did take me 6 days to get a mail from california. But ya, i believe monday has to be the day.

seuferk, my first and last names begin with b's, and I applied to more than one school, so that is definitely not the case. I have a feeling that at this point people that don't have them are waitlist/reject...

i got accepted into Tepper and MCS..i'm surprised, but happy.

Grr, I'm kind of freaking out right now. This is upsetting, my friend got his acceptance and he lives only 10 minutes away from me (at least we're in different zip codes, or else I'd be more freaked).

I mean, I really should get in MCS and CIT with these stats right? 2280 SAT (790 M, 750 CR, 740 W), 3.85 UW GPA (4.7 W), average-good ECs, good awards, good essays, good recs? Maybe I might get rejected because when it asked for the last 4 books I read, 3 of them were conservative political books? Maybe they just hate conservatives, lol.

Has anyone gotten rejected yet?

Waitlisted/Rejected/International really

It takes ages for the mail to reach here. (think a week/2 weeks) :)

well, considering mathwiz doesn't have his yet, and he managed to get into Olin and waitlist at MIT I am slightly less scared about not getting one yet. Maybe they do send them in random batches...
