I mean, I really should get in MCS and CIT with these stats right? 2280 SAT (790 M, 750 CR, 740 W), 3.85 UW GPA (4.7 W), average-good ECs, good awards, good essays, good recs? Maybe I might get rejected because when it asked for the last 4 books I read, 3 of them were conservative political books? Maybe they just hate conservatives, lol.

You (and everybody else on the board) shouldn't assume you have been rejected before getting an official letter. Mail in the US is really very slow compared to other developed countries, maybe because of the continental size of the States or just due to lack of investment by the federal government in the postal service.

In any case, if you really got rejected, I doubt it has anything to do with your political opinions. CMU is not a politically-oriented school, especially CIT and MCS, which are basically tech/science colleges. Tepper and H&SS economics on the other hand are actually fairly conservative. A few of the most prominent conservative economists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries either are or were at some point affiliated with CMU, e.g. Nobel prize winners Robert Lucas Jr and Finn Kydland, and monetarist economist Alan Meltzer.

well, considering mathwiz doesn't have his yet, and he managed to get into Olin and waitlist at MIT I am slightly less scared about not getting one yet. Maybe they do send them in random batches...

ummm... well I'm... ummm.... honored.... that you would say that, but remember that these are top schools we're talking about and acceptance to one doesn't means acceptance to another.

I know, but anything to ease my anxiety helps, lol

eases mine, too. (that mathwiz hasn't gotten his decision yet)

I didn't touch the political thing...I named my conservative political club "political awareness" so that it wouldn't sound like it was just conservatives..which it isn't completely...but, uhh....I think we might have one moderate ;)

I really think it's going to be ok, guys. I mean, for most of you, not necessarily me. CC has a higher admit rate to most of these schools, it's hard for me to believe that all of you that haven't heard are rejected.

.... better be monday though..... :)

Stats:

SAT 2340, M740, V800, CR800
Class Rank 1/275
NMF Commended
SAT II Bio 740 US History 730 Math 730
AP US History & AP Bio 5
Received acceptance letter 3/24 to Tepper & IS program

haha, I skipped most of the conservative books I read when I answered that question and went with intellectual fiction like Crime and Punishment and 1984. I don't actually remember the other two books I put.

I am hoping for monday too

yeah! what books did everyone put down?

I think I put: Guys and Dolls - Damon Runyon, Slapstick - Kurt Vonnegut, Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami, The Genius of Language - Wendy Lesser,

I just answered honestly and put The FairTax Book, Men in Black: How the Supreme Court is destroying America, 100 People who are Screwing up America, and Runaway Jury (good book btw).

Has anyone gotten their decision who hasn't been accepted to two or more schools? How about applied to two or more and accepted at at least one.

Mathwiz,

You got accepted into Caltech, didn't you ? Congratulations! I guess CMU's decision doesn't matter now, but, just for the record, if CMU rejects you (which I find totally unlikely), then we must conclude the whole admissions process doesn't really make any sense .

I don't know if this helps anyone, but my son was pre-accepted into the Drama school back in Sept. & has rec'd a phone call w/ news that he's passed through general university admissions too, but he still hasn't rec'd a letter. Please don't assume that if you haven't rec'd your letter yet you're rejected. I know it's really tough waiting, but everybody take a deep breath......and
Good Luck!

whoa mathwiz, you got into caltech..congrats man. That is a great school.

jeeeez olin AND Caltech? congratulations!

i never got my letter...

well if they were mailed thurs the decisions should be posted online at 12 am est tonight...

Last year decisions were posted online 3/26 at 10AM Eastern. Of course last year 3/26 was a Sunday (the equivalent of today, the day which is almost over). This is annoying. I want my decision.

^ so then we should get decisions tomorrow at 10 am EST?

i know where i'll be at 10 am...(the computer lab)

I have no idea when we'll get them. I would think by the logic I posted that they should've been up at 10AM this morning (13 hours ago), but that didn't happen. I'm just going to have to remember to write down my app ID so I can check from school.

Nothing yet... I live in MD and applied to CIT.

mehhh, so we have to wait till tommorow.... anxiously biting nails here
