Is there anything that anyone could suggest? I had a great audition-probably my best one I’ve done, but this is a highly competetive program. Does anyone have any tips or advice of how to push myself in tat little extra bit? I already wrote thank yous to all of my auditioners.
Any help would be appreciated!

I really don't know what else you could do. Did you do an interview with a CMU alum or someone in admissions? Have you visited the campus?

The truth is I don't know if those things would make a difference once the audition is done. I know someone who wanted to attend the program very badly last year. This person did everything that I know of that you could do but never got off the waitlist.

My S did an interview prior to his audition in LA two years ago with a drama alum near our hometown. I have to say I don't remember if he sent thank yous after the audition. He knew that his audition went very well but we didn't know anything until the day that we checked online status and it said he was accepted, (usually you get something in the mail first but we are in California and the mail took too long).

Maybe someone else will have better advice. Mine would be keep positive thoughts until the last week of March when everyone will know one way or another. Good luck to you and everyone else in your position!

I hate just sitting... I wish that I could do something. I was actually advised against an alumni interview because I am going to the music theater program and there are not that many people that are from that program that would do interviews. I did however do my audition on campus and I know someone in the school who gave me a tour of the school after my audition. I am completely in love with school!!! This is torture! Thanks for your good vibes! If anyone has any more advice, I'd happily oblige in listening;) Thanks!

Hi Jesse,

Where else have you applied and/or heard from yet? Maybe you can transfer some of your anxiety about CMU to some of these other schools? You know, share the wealth? ;-)

Having been through this with my D last year, I know how hard this is but what Wct said above is right. You've done all that you can do at this point. If it wasn't enough, it doesn't mean you "failed". It just means that you were not the right match for that specific program this year. My feeble attempt at humor above does have some truth in it.........Focusing all of your hopes and dreams on one program is a bit dangerous. Of course we all hope your dream is realized, but you must believe that there is more than one program that can help you realize your dreams. Find something else to distract you from looking at the mail box every day and your answers will seem to arrive much sooner and you'll enjoy the rest of your senior year. You owe that to yourself as well. It's an exciting time. Live it.

thanks for all the tips. I just wish that there was something that I could do... Sigh. I really have put all my hopes on this one-it really is a dream school. Now I can't get my hopes off of it.
I also applied to:
Ithaca
Syracuse
NYU-tisch cap 21
UMICH(Don't think that I got an audition, still haven't heard)
CCM

Boston Conservatory

Haven't heard from any of them yet. I called them and it trns out that my school hasn't sent my transcripts or reccomendations yet. Goddamn Canadian schools. I think that I'm gonna have an aneurism.

can we please keep our language clean. that wording is extremely offensive to a lot of us.

Sorry-what language? I'll edit my post, what part are you talking about?
-Jesse

your next to the last sentence and your adjective for canadian schools. how could you not know which word is offensive?

K edited-sorry, honestly didn't know. I don't find that word offensive at all and it's often on prime time television-usually my rule of thumb is if it's prime time, it's fine. Sorry Mrsark

thanks for the apology and i hate to continue this conversation after you've apologized but i have to say that you would never, ever ever hear that particular phrase on network tv, maybe "damn" but not that whole phrase. don't know about canadian tv, but not in the states. God is the center of my religion and that of millions of other people in the world. don't know how anyone would not understand that using His name as profanity would not offend anyone who worships Him. and i think it's sad that anyone doesn't find it offensive to take in vain the name of God. No one uses the name of Buddha or Mohammed to cuss. Why use the God of the Christian religion? but, i do appreciate the fact that you apologized.

Mrsark87 and others:

While we are on the subject, what does everyone think of theatre and censorship? Mrsark87, you must realize that most modern playwrights use profanity, vulgarity, controversial subject matter and nudity. Here is a tiny sampling of award-winning playwrights that have used various degrees of shocking language and subjects: Arthur Miller, Tenesee Williams, Edward Albee, Harold Pinter, Christopher Durang, Harvey Fierstein, George C. Wolfe, John Patrick Shanley, Marsha Norman,Tony Kushner, Wendy Wasserstein, Lee Blessing, Tenesee Williams.....on and on and on.
As as actor, one will find themselves in situations where "profanities" are integral to the text. Even musicals, like "A Chorus Line" "Caroline or Change" and "Avenue Q" deal with issues of sexuality, race, religion and G-d knows what else.
Does the CC audience feel that one should put aside their religious differences for the sake of performance? I realize that although this issue isn't central to MT college choices, anyone going into the theatre world must consider the much more liberal atmosphere that exists in this field compared to some other professions.

Jessee, your apology shows a great amount of maturity for someone your age. I hope you do get into CMU. Call each of the schools and make sure all the info is complete, and if it is not, get your school to resend everything asap and send a letter telling the schools what has happened and reaffirm your interest in the school. Don't think there is anything you can do for CMU. If you were ill or off on the audition, I would advise a CD or tape, but at this point most of the decisions are made. Take care, and good luck. With your ability to deal with adults without getting snippy, you will go far.

Thank you very much for your comments jamimom. To mrsark-I tried to edit my post but ccouldn't figure it out. Do you know how?

An update to all-I just got a call from the student connection at CMU so I could ask any questions or anything. I came up with some quuestions that were pretty standard, eg: When you got to CMU, what was one good surprise and one bad surprise? We talked for a while, maybe 10 minutes before we hung up. Is this a good thing? Should I read into this call or does everyone get it?

Something else-I THINK they said that on March 1 they look at our files...
Oh man... so nervous!
-Jesse

freelance,
You raise a provacative subject....why not start a new thread with this question?

Interesting, our D got the same type of phone call from CMU, asking if she had any questions about the school. This happened about 2 days after her Unified audition.Thought it was a nice touch, though the female student who called was in engineering!
I inquired and was told that CMU sends their decisions between March 15 and April 15, and that they wait until all auditions are complete before deciding, and that they never accept someone "on the spot" during their audition. Someone here seemed to indicate that you can go on line and check? That I didn't know. I was told that Northwestern makes the decision available on-line the last Friday or Sat. in March.
One general question a parent told me to ask during interviews is: "What type of person seems to be happy at this school (or in this program, etc..)?" I really liked that question about good surprise and bad surprise-very clever.

Jesse, Hi, we met you at the Syracuse auditions. If you recall, it turned out that you went to the same theater camp that my oldest child, who is now 18 and in college, went to and you played opposite her in Oliver, as we all figured out. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I will reiterate what others have said that you should not pin your hopes on any ONE college program. I feel that way about any college applicant but in this highly competitive type of admissions process, please keep an open mind about all your schools. We have been to so many and I think that they each have lots to offer you in their BFA programs.

I don't think there is any more you can do at this point re: CMU. By the way, my D had her audition there this past Sunday. They will let students know in March. As far as a current student calling you, this is NOT a sign of anything. CMU apparently has current students (these are regular students ,not BFA theater students) call applicants and offer to answer any questions. My D got such a call a very long time ago though was not home that time. A few minutes ago, another CMU student called our house for the same reason. I think they call all applicants and this is in no relation to your chances.

I also think it is mature of you to apologize to someone who felt offended by your language. While you did not mean to offend, there are all sorts of folks with all sorts of values and perspectives and so it is good to be aware of that and to do as you did in this case.

While not exactly the same, I agree with Freelance that many pieces of theater today include all sorts of language and that those going into acting will have to decide their comfort level of having to use language or subjects on stage, that they might not otherwise be comfortable with. I realize that is not the same as using the language in a post or regular conversation.

Susan

darn! I was hoping it was a good sign. Sigh. Good to hear from you soozievt! My big problem now is that all of my hopes are on CMU, I just totally fell in love with the school and now can't think of anything else-as I said in the initial post, it's rare that I find a school that matches so perfectly with you.
-Jesse
p.s. Thanks all for your comments on apologizing but it's not neccasry, it's just the polite thing to apologize, it's the right thing to do-but thanks for your comments on my maturity.

Checking On line for CMU decision:

Yes you can go online and check with your bio ID# if you have been accepted. It will appear online 3 days after your acceptance letter goes out. I may be a little off the mark but letters started going out around the 24th of March when my son was waiting 2 years ago. There is a CMU thread on CC, (mostly used by students interested in departments other than CFA).

Jesse,

In regards to "editing"....that option is only available for a short period of time after posting. So you won't be able to do it now. Hope you hear good news soon! ;)

SUE

argh!!!!! Still waiting! I'm dying here!!! I want to go there SOO badly!
