Carnegie Mellon Alumni Interview for SCS

Hey everybody,

I'm applying to SCS RD, and my interview with an alumni is tomorrow. I'm kind of stuck on the kinds of things I want to ask; to provide some context, my interviewer is SCS '11 and CIT '14, and I'm looking to try and apply later on (if I make it) for the computational biology BS during my 2nd year. Here are some of the questions I have so far:

What is the student life like there? (collaborative vs. competitive)
What's the workload like for SCS student?
What sort of companies do SCS students (especially comp bio students) get opportunities to intern at?
What are the professors like? Are they easy to get in touch with, and to go see for help for something?
Do you know anything about how the computational biology program is like?
Is it possible to double major with computational biology and computer science?
What sort of tools/databases does SCS have access to?
Are there math clubs/teams, computer science clubs/teams, etc. to conveniently participate in?
Is the social life between fraternities and dorms much different on campus?
How compact is the campus? (in terms of walking, biking, trails, etc.)
Are there a lot of gyms on the campus that students have admission to?
Are the intramurals there active?
Are the dining halls relatively good, or is the fast food/restauraunts around more favorable?

You’re fine!

Those are some great questions. The interview should be very low-stress and informal. Just relax and try to be yourself :-)
