Has anyone applied to the school of Architecture Regular Decision?

I DID! (10 char)

Me too!! (10 char)

Awesome! It's nice to see that other people want to Major in Architecture at Carnegie Mellon too! Are you international? did you get a decision letter yet?

I did as well.

me too. I was told March 26 letters go out, can anyone confirm this?

noops,
I thought you are in at MIT?

and forgive my stupidity, but what is "(10 char)"

-sara

Ah, got it..

Haha, yeah I'm in at MIT but it is EA. So I didn't have to withdraw. I have a feeling I'm a reject at CMU since I didn't want to redo my portfolio for their standards and they weren't exactly happy about that.

archKid, I heard that letters come out around that date as well.

Good Luck to everyone! I hope everything turns out well for those of you who really want to go here! I definitely do, but 2 more weeks of waiting is going to feel so long!!!

i applied to architecture at cmu too! ...and i'm surprised so many people here did as well.

how was everyone's portfolio? i honestly haven't taken any art classes at school even though i admittedly have at least a knack for art (my mom was a fine arts major) so hopefully they see some talent anyways. i took summer classes at a local art school so maybe that helps.

does anyone know how demanding they are in their portfolio assessments?

When at a CMU Arch info session last fall I asked the architecture admissions persons (two women, sorry I can't recall their exact titles, I think director of arch admissions?) about portfolio submission. One made it clear that nothing in your portfolio can hurt your admissions, they would not hold anything in your portfolio against you. So whatever you sent can at best help you if they like it, at worst it would be neutral. I told them that this went against what the regular admissions had told me earlier that day, when asked Admissions Office said portfolio was critical, in fact it was in a powerpoint slide graphic at the info session showed it as a big portion of admissions (like 40%?). They both laughed and said as they were the people who oversaw the admits to arch, that we should trust them and they would correct the admissions office soon as possible. Then said for Arts, portfolio is huge and for performance the audition is 80%

(10char) means some one needs to fill the post with at least 10 characters in able to post it...

Who did an on-campus portfolio review and how did it go?

yep

-sara

Actually, there is one thing that can hurt you for their portfolio. I didn't feel like redoing my portfolio just for CMU so I didn't follow all their guidelines. I called them up and asked if it was okay, and they stressed that they wouldn't be happy with what I was submitting since they only view portfolios for a certain amount of time. They said they'd look at it and then just be upset. It was seriously a stupid debate on the phone. In every portfolio review I did, they thumbed through the whole thing and then went back to works that they wanted to review in depth. Why CMU couldn't just do the same, really beats me.

I did! (10 char)

I applied and got in :)
just a quick question - can anyone tell me what the workplace is like? I hope the studio is not located somewhre in the basement of the building...

According to Wikipedia "The School of Architecture's facilities are located on the second floor of the College of Fine Arts building and the second, third, and fourth floors of Margaret Morrison Carnegie Hall. These two buildings house undergraduate studios, a Master's studio, PhD offices, computer labs, a wood shop, administrative and faculty offices, and several conference spaces." That said, when we were on tour there were a bunch of first year students putting projects together in the basement of one of the buildings. I saw their critiques the next day, which they did in the halls of the Fine Arts Building.

The studios at CMU are nice, so don't worry.

What exactly does CMU want from the portfolios?
Sorry, I don't know much about admission portfolios.
