Carnegie Mellon(computer science) vs Cornell Engineering

Hi all,
as you could imagine, i've got into those 2 schools and now the date for decision is fast approaching, and i'd appreciate any kinds of opinions, information and whatnot.

personally, i'm leaning towards Cornell, because I'm not quite sure how much i want to do Computer Science and also, i know it sounds superficial, but i'd like to go to an ivy school for undergrad.

I'm undecided prospective engineer for Cornell Engieering btw.

so how would you compare those two
a)academically
b)socially(life, prestige and etc)
c)in overall?

Academics = Carnegie Mellon
Name Recognition/Prestige = Cornell
A Cooper Union graduate told me this.

I think it'd be hard to compare them without having attended both, but how does Carnegie Mellon's major declaration process work? Is it very easy to switch from Computer Science or to try out other majors before officially declaring? That would be something to think about if you aren't sure what you want to major in - here it is very easy to change majors within the college of engineering and certainly not too hard to transfer into another college should you decide.

I think prestige they are going to be equal, both are top-notch programs for both undergrads and graduate students (Top 5 even?).

Are you absolutely sure you want to do Comp. sci? If so, Carnegie Mellon wins. If you're not, stick to Cornell. The rest of Carnegie Mellon's engineering (majors) are good, but I fell Cornell's is better. Consider money too. Also, the social life at Carnegie Mellon is horrendous. Just something to think about.

visit both universities and decide which place do you want to spend 4 years of your life in. It doesn't make that much of a difference when it comes to academics, I'd go with living in Pittsburgh.

Tough choice. According to my friend:

Academics - about equal, CMU's amazing at CS, but otherwise Cornell wins
Social Life - Cornell wins
Overall - CMU and Cornell have about equal prestige in engineering, Cornell seems to have better prestige and academics overall

Also, I don't think CMU gives that much money.

thanks guys. i think i am going to cornell:)

Cornell is the best at engineering out of all the Ivies. Even if Carnegie Mellon may be the better school, I'd still go to Cornell because it is probably better respected.

If you are absolutely sure about CS, go to CMU. This is coming from a CS major at Cornell...

It's not that our program is bad its just that there certainly is room for improvement and I bet that CMU gets its number 1 ranking from somewhere....

But if someone isn't sure about computer science, Cornell is a great choice because it has so many excellent options for other areas of study.

CORNELL most definitely!!!
