Carnegie Mellon Diversity AP/EA Program questions?

Hi, I just came across the Carnegie Mellon AP/EA program, and I am interested in applying. To my knowledge, there are two programs: one is part of the “diversity” program, and the other is part of the summer scholars program. I heard that you need to apply to SAMS, and if you’re “overqualified”, you can be in the ap/ea program.

I heard that the summer scholars admission is very expensive, but the diversity one is completely free (except for a few hundred fees). I’m obviously interested in applying to the diversity one, but how strict are the “diverse” requirements? I’m East Asian (korean) so obviously I’m not a minority at all. I still heard of people (east asian, white) applying to this program, so is this something that is viable?

Has anyone been to the program, and would you recommend it? It seems very long and will take up most of the summer, so I am a bit worried.

How selective is admission to the program? Are admissions more based on academics or extracurriculars? I have very strong stats (2370 SAT, 5/4s on AP tests, perfect psat score, 4.0 gpa, etc.) so academically, I should be overqualified. My main extracurricular is orchestra, which I heard the program likes it if you’re part of the arts (listed on the site). I don’t have many other impressive extra curriculars however, so what are my chances?

Overall thoughts on the program??

I did AP/EA last year. SAMS is a completely different program that you have to apply to separately.

It was 1000000% worth it. I got college credit for 2 classes and my college application was much stronger. It’s definitely very rigorous-- not only are you taking college classes, but they’re sped up to 6 weeks long. But still, I loved it.
