How much do applicants usually get in financial aid if they were admitted under early decision at carnegie? and what kind of aid do they usually get? It says on their website that carnegie meets the full demonstrated need, but how accurate is that? I'm from a relatively poor family, so I wanna know if I would get screwed with carnegie's financial aid under early decision.

In your circumstances, you should NOT apply ED anywhere. No one can tell you what Carnegie Mellon’s aid would be, because it depends on individual circumstances.

The web site says that for ED applicants, they meet full demonstrated need “as calculated by the university” – which means it is what they decide to give you, not what your FAFSA EFC says you need. ED students cannot participate in the review process-- the “review” is that CMU will look at offers from competing schools for RD admits, so basically the RD students probably end up with better aid, IF they are strong students who also have good packages from other schools to use in negotiating.

So basically the answer is… apply RD and apply to a lot of schools.
