**Carnegie Mellon ED Discussion Thread 2013**

Waiting waiting waiting! I applied for CIT :)

Ah, I’m so jealous of all you guys who applied ED. I got scared off by the binding decision, since Carnegie is only my second dream school, right after MIT (a guy can dream, can’t he?) Anyway, good luck to you and anyone else who applied early. The wait must be completely nerve-wracking, but only a couple more weeks to go!

I’m in a similar situation, MIT was the dream for a while but I visited and fell totally in love with CMU. Still applied EA to MIT, but CMU is where I really feel I belong :)

I wish I had the chance to visit. I know it would’ve made a pretty big difference. But my parents will only allow me to visit schools that I’ve been accepted to, in order to make a final decision. Did you visit both CMU and MIT?

Yes I visited both, I did an overnight at CMU and a day visit at MIT. I attended classes and talked to students at both. I got more of a quirky, geeky, diverse feeling from CMU than from MIT. If you’d like to hear more I would be happy to elaborate on my experiences at both schools  MIT was really fantastic, just a bit serious for my tastes

Also haha I think I might be the only ED on this website this year! Darn the thread last year was so lively ;)

Hey.
I have applied to SCS through ED.

Best of luck to everyone!

Yay! Good luck!

I applied ED for IS! Agh! so nervous, 16 more days.
I visited in the summer and absolutely loved it.

Hey remi04 I applied for IS ED as well!
So exciting and best of luck to all!
:D

So what drew you guys to CMU? Less than two weeks!

To be honest, the main thing that made me consider CMU is the sheer strength of its comp sci program. I mean, it’s an entire school devoted to comp sci. And it’s among the four best in the country. Their engineering is amazing as well, so there’s always the possibility of switching over to that school if I decide that comp sci isn’t a good fit. And yeah, I know that it’s not good to base your college choices only on the strength of the program, but I haven’t had the chance to visit yet. So until then, I’m drawn to CMU simply because the comp sci program is freaking amazing!

I can’t really pinpoint what it was. But I just loved the school’s atmosphere. It was just so inviting compared to others I’ve visited (although one visit doesn’t really determine that much).

I was drawn the the IS program. Not many schools have a really good one like CMU does since it’s a newish field.

Early decision CIT over here!

I loved the atmosphere too. The classrooms, philosophies, people, everything just made me feel at home. Such a strong engineering program too!

How am I going to keep my mind off this for TWO WEEKS??!!

Haha I’ve given up trying, I have to think about it!

Update: 11 days!

I applied ed for mechanical engineering. The wait is killing me.

Did you guys do any EA schools too? I also applied to MIT (just to see if I could get in), Drexel, and UConn :)
