Carnegie Mellon Interview

I have an interview w/ an admissions counselor coming up and I was wondering:

what kinds of questions are asked?
what attire I should wear? (i'm a guy)

Thanks.

I did a quick seach of “interview” on this site and found one that may interest you.

This may help also.

With respect to attire…dress casual, but neat. If it has a hole in it, don’t wear it. My son wore a nice pair of jeans (pulled up to the waist), sneakers, and a polo-shirt. I thought that was pretty safe.

Obviously, you will be asked “why are you applying to CMU?”.

Also, its a good idea to have a list of questions to ask the interviewer.

Thanks for you responses!
I ended up wearing some nice corduroys and a polo. The interview was pretty casual and informative

Glad to hear it. Good luck!

General rule of thumb – anything but sneakers.
Khakis and polos are just fine for ladies and men.
Brush your teeth, wash your hair (yes really) -and no offensive body odor nor overly strong after shaves and you’re fine. IMHO - a haircut is always a good idea if your shagginess covers your eyes.

Tepper - a bit different, dress pants, button down shirt and tie at a minimum. Suit would not be overkill - but also ok if you don’t own one. By all means a tie for tepper.

Relax and be yourself – and come with questions and not the ones that you could find answers to by yourself – that would show you are unprepared and really aren’t interested b/c you didn’t read the website yet.
