Hi,
I will be able to the CMU Pre-College program for MT around December, but I have questions regarding when I should apply because in December I will have my SAT and PSAT scores but will only have my grades up to my sophomore year, because first semester junior year grades come out at the end of January. I have very good grades, and I go to a high performing academic school, so I was wondering whether my Freshman/Sophomore Grades and SAT/PSAT are sufficient or whether I should wait until the end of January to apply. But I also know that CMU has rolling admissions, so wouldn't applying in January be bad?

Also, does CMU look for lots of stage experience? I have impressive academic grades, extra-curriculars, and theater related things like voice lessons, vocal coaching, dance lessons, acting classes, school acting classes, 1 summer musical theater conservatory, theater festivals, choir since elementary school. I also have lots of music experience including flute, guitar, and piano BUT I don't have that much stage experience. If I apply in December, I will only have been in 4 productions: 3 musicals and 1 play.
Will that count against me? If I apply in February or March I will probably have been in another musical, but isn't that already too late?

claydavisbc, my D attended the CMU precollege program last year and loved it. It was one of the best experiences of her life. However, I wouldn't characterize admissions to the program as overly competitive, either grade- and score-wise or experience-wise. It seemed to me that kids' came from a variety of backgrounds: some had a lot of experience and some only had a little. So I think you are, well, overthinking this! The important thing is to get your application in early, but maybe not too early. Despite the fact that my D sent hers in December, she wasn't the first to hear (they misplaced her application, probably because it came early) and it took some phone calls and frantic emails and the wonderful help of a woman in the program there to straighten things out. My advice would be to apply in early January and send things to CMU with a tracking number, etc. so you can make sure it arrives. But I wouldn't expect to hear anything until March, which is when they begin to make decisions. Good luck!
