Just got an email...didnt get in.

UkidMom, Space Ranger and 3373cw both got into HSS, or Tepper. It is likely that those schools are NOT over-enrolled, since CMU is known for technology/science, not social science or business.

well, i was waitlisted at both hss and tepper. the lady who called me said that both schools are over-enrolled this year. they were unable to take anyone off the waitlist. maybe....she was just being nice and didn't tell me the truth. who knows. i'm done with cmu.

All schools are full.

PS: Economics students do not take up a "Tepper" spot and are considered General HSS along with the rest of the HSS majors.

i highly doubt there will be any spots in june for regular waitlist. looking at the waitlist thread from last year, most people got off the priority waitlist eventually, but that's not the case this year. well, it's just not a good year for us waitlistees.

Has anyone checked their "Where Am I In the Process" pages recently to see if they are updated?

anyway... I cannot understand this kinda situation
They even sent mail 2nd May about joining in priority waitlist,
even though they knew they did not have any openings.

i just checked my "where i am in the process" page, and all my decisions are blank ("waitlist" status is gone).

to hersheymaster, i can't believe they lied to us in that email we all got. why did they send an email confirming priority waitlist status when they knew they couldn't get anyone off the waitlist?

hersheymaster: well, they were actually trying to scare people off, but I see what you mean. It seems that one cannot trust the CMU Admission office to tell the truth.... For example, they said that the order in which the RD decisions came out was random, while in fact it was not. Whatever, I don't care for cmu anymore.

"Has anyone checked their "Where Am I In the Process" pages recently to see if they are updated?"

Yeah, I checked mine right after I got the email and it said 'Not Admitted' but I checked it again just now and its blank.

o0shuo0o: Yeah, I checked mine earlier and the "waitlist" status is gone too.
It says that they sent more financial aid papers to me yesterday though, so I don't understand why they would do that if I have not been admitted yet.

I find it very inconsistent too that they sent me an email on May 1st stating that there were spots open.

I think I'm going to call the admissions person who contacted me and maybe he will be able to answer some of my questions...

to ikrystin: same, i was thinking about call admissions office tomorrow. however, i doubt they will actually tell us the "truth" considering they have lied to us so many times before. i was actually surprised that they couldn't accept anyone off the waitlist since other top colleges are using the waitlist more than ever this year.

"since other top colleges are using the waitlist more than ever this year"

That's very good news! I have been wait-listed to 3 other colleges besides cmu, I hope I get into one of them.

to magicalbeing: where else have you been waitlisted at (if you don't mind sharing)?

currently enrolled at RPI. Wait-listed by CMU, Emory, Cornell, Amherst.

as anal as this is gonna sound, it's 9:02 and i have yet to receive a phone call. as of yesterday, i was still on the pwl for mcs. what's going on!?

I got a call and same story, no one is taken from priority wait list for MSC

I don't think they were lying if they sent e-mails May 1 or May 2 about priority waitlist. If you got in RD you could accept a spot by sending a response postmarked May 1. So they wouldn't know for sure about waitlists till May 2 or 3 at the earliest, when they finish tallying.

Historically they admitted off pwl, so I imagine they expected this year to be the same, but apparently got more enrollments than expected.

Best of luck to all...

Since some people here are upset with CMU admissions policy regarding the priority wait list, I would like to express my thoughts about this. Why can't CMU just honestly post how many applied for each department, how many were accepted, and how many were wait listed? Many colleges have said exactly how many applied, accepted, etc. after April 15. Did CMU post this info? I think it would be helpful for all of you who are hoping to get in via the wait list (or priority wait list) if you know the odds.

WOW.

I just got in.

E-Mail sent at 4:23 PM. I'm in California though, so I'm not quite sure about the postage stuff and the "respond back by..." e-mail.

This is actually a pretty hard decision, since I just SIR'ed to UCSD and have really gotten set on the school (as a way to avoid thinking about CMU.) Now I got in, and it's like "uhh........."

Anyone else?
