Waitlisted to MCS. I thought I had a decent chance…oh well at least I was priority waitlisted :/

Has ANYONE been denied? All i see are people waitlisted lol

I was accepted to mcs and h&ss :). But for everyone who got waitlisted, you rly do still have a chance. My brother was waitlisted and accepted a few years ago. Cmu definitely uses their waitlist.

Wait listed from Tepper

Hi guys,
I got watlisted from SCS, but I also got the option of Priority Wait List. Does anyone know if priority wait list actually helps or should I just go for regular? How many people from the priority wait list (or regular wait list for that matter) actually get admitted later on? I’m confused if I should pick the priority one or not as I really do want to go to Carnegie Mellon for Computer Science, but I am still waiting on other schools.

What can we send to the admissions officers to help our chances of getting in from the waitlist? Do people usually send additional information?

Thanks!

While the admit rate is low…and on their own FAQ they said they didn’t take any students last year, it never hurts to apply. Priority waitlist is just that…you get priority in terms of your decision (they consider you first when trying to fill slots).

If you’re still waiting on other schools, I would wait. They should all be out by Thursday I’m guessing anyways. I don’t know if it’s binding or not, but it sounds binding.

Also, I’m not sure exactly what you should send and how you should send it, but it is often recommended to send grades, updates, and the like to the adcoms. Hopefully, not too much slacking 3rd quarter senior year :P.

Where do we check decisions? I don’t recall getting any emails from CMU…

Waitlisted from MCS… Rejected from CIT

Rejected from SCS, and waitlisted from CIT.

I was expecting the reject from SCS, but not the waitlist from CIT. I liked CMU quite a bit, but the waitlist isn’t a huge deal as CMU was several schools down on my list. However, I’m somewhat distraught because this is the first top tier school I’ve heard back from, so it doesn’t bode well for the rest.

Seems to be a lot of other people here in the same boat, and some seem to be attributing it to Tufts syndrome… well I have no clue if its true or not, but I certainly hope not because I applied to Tufts too.

Financial aid packages will be sent out beginning of next week, possibly the end of this week (I called the office).

@Apprentice

I was just upset that I got waitlisted from a school I had pretty much thought I was going to be accepted into without any difficulty. It’s arrogant, I know. In my defense, I had gotten into a few top 20 B Schools, and TSB isn’t even Top 20, so that’s why I assumed I was in.

However, I think CMU just wants a certain type of student. While I thought I showed interest, that could be a factor, and who knows what CMU was looking for. Stats and ECs aren’t the whole package, so there’s places where they might have wanted something different.

But honestly, this isn’t any type of benchmark for other schools. Like I said, I got into other top tier schools, but not CMU. I’ve had friends who got likely letters for every Ivy and then got denied ED from MIT. So keep your head up. Good luck for your other schools!

@Apprentice

What’s your stats? For me, 2070 SAT superscore Physics 800 Math II 800, GPA 3.62

Under college choices I have an “accept” next to CIT (yay!) but it says “cancel” next to MCS and SCS. What does that mean?

So I was waitlisted for CIT - ECE (which was the only thing I applied for), but I got my letter today saying that I was accepted to all the other departments at CIT, even though I only picked CIT - ECE when I applied. Did this happen to anyone else?

In regards to Tepper not being top 20…last week the 2012 US News came out and it was #9

@bachboy That’s fine. They do that in case they need to limit the kids that get into ECE because of lack of room, but like my CIT adviser said, they have NEVER turned down anyone who did well in the introductory course and wanted to major in ECE. The only difference is that kids admitted into ECE right off the bat are guaranteed a spot.

@parent94

I was going off of the Businessweek rankings in which TSB is #20. But then again, all rankings have to be taken with a grain of salt.

I personally applied because I thought CMU was a great place to blend technology and business for some really cool entrepreneurial education.

@BlizzBlazer It says on my admission letter that I cannot transfer to ECE if I enroll in another major. But they automatically gave me admission to all the other CIT majors (chem E, mech E, civil E, etc.).

@bachboy Take my word for it. My roommate got the same letter and he has officially declared ECE as is major after doing well in the intro course. He is one of the many I know.

You can always call for reassurance. Talk to an adviser if you can, I recommend Kurt Larsen. (adviser for CIT freshmen)

@DRose2012

Businessweek rankings, to be honest, are probably not very accurate. Any undergraduate B school ranking that does not list Wharton or MIT as the top two B schools are basically illegitimate.

I was accepted into Tepper ED1. And I was also accepted to the Notre Dame Mendoza Business school EA, but obviously i’m going to Tepper since it was ED.

And to be honest, even if I had to choose between Tepper and Mendoza, I’de still go with Tepper. In my opinion, rankings have to be taken with a HUGE amount of salt. Rankings don’t mean anything, it all depends on the student. I know Tepper graduates that now work with Wharton graduates.

Just my 2 cents =]
