Carnegie Mellon Reeling from Defections in Robotics Department

There was an article just posted in the Wall Street Journal about how UBER lured robotics scientists away by providing bonuses of “hundreds of thousands of dollars and a doubling of salaries”:

I am not an Carnegie-Mellon alum, but in my opinion they are becoming a worthy rival to MIT and CalTech. In some fields (e.g. computer science), I think CMU grads are superior to anyone else. While CMU will suffer in the short-term, it speaks very highly that UBER thought the scientists were worthy of being poached.

Exiting times for robotics. Uber and CMU seem to be cooping on this project, so there should be plenty of opportunities for CMU in this field.

@hebegebe They are definitely right up there in some fields. I agree. IMO, if CMU were on either coast, it would already have the full respect it deserves.
