Carnegie Mellon School of Art

Hi, I'm a senior attending an international high school. I am applying RD to Carnegie Mellon School of Art. I was wandering how much they look at the portfolio. Since the major is art, I am pretty sure that they would look at the portfolio more than the academic part. But, by how much?

I went to one of their information sessions in my city last month. For art majors, I remember that they look at both academics and portfolio, but those who look at your portfolio have a little more power. The people who look at the academics may accept you, but if the people who look at your portfolio don’t like it, they can veto your admission. The admissions officer said it’s 49% academics and 51% portfolio.
I’ve applied for the design major. Good luck to the both of us! :)

OP. I gave you some feedback in your other thread- good luck to you both!

Thank you for the replies!
Good to hear that they look at the portfolio slightly more. My weaknesses are definitely SAT and GPA. My SAT score is 1990 and my GPA is 3.42. I have taken 5 AP’s and earned AP Scholar.
Even though my SAT and GPA are definitely below the average score of admitted students, I decided to apply because of my portfolio. My portfolio is strong enough to get into RISD safely.
But, I’m really worried that my SAT and GPA are way too far from meeting the expectation…
Considering my SAT, GPA and strong portfolio, what do you think about my chance of getting accepted?
