Carnegie Mellon School of Art

Hi, I'm a senior attending an international high school. I have applied RD to Carnegie Mellon University School of Art. I was wondering how hard it is to get into CMU School of Art. What's the most important thing to be accepted and how much do they look at the portfolio?

it’s a combination of yr portfolio/essays/academics, i would argue weighted more-so towards the portfolio/essays than yr gpa/sat scores. perhaps google “admitulator”

The portfolio and supplement are probably weighed the highest (over SAT’s, GPA,etc). The Art school accepts about 1/6th of their applicants each year. CMU is a school about developing the artist. It’s less about technical skills and more about broadening your range of art through conceptual methods. The range of skill level varies from artist to artist, but each one brings something unique. You’ll work hard here, but in the end you will be rewarded. Good luck

I’m a current undergrad art student :)

Hoping to visit CMU School of Art – S is a rising senior. He called and they told him portfolio reviews on campus won’t take palce until January, which seemed rather late?

Wondering if we should drive out there and take a tour, etc., but we can’t until June (by which time most students will be gone, will there even be anyone around to talk to in the studios?)

There will be some people around during summer term, including me. If you’re interested in a student led tour of the studios feel free to PM me.
