Carnegie Mellon Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) and AP/EA 2019

@frgiven I was waitlisted on January 30th.

@MM2030 Thanks for the reply. I was waitlisted on 2/11, do you think I have any shot of getting in still? Also, did you send them an email notifying them you were still interested in attending (was wondering if I should do that)

I got in SAMS and I applied at the deadline as well.

My stats

African Male. Nationality: Ethiopian
PSAT score: 1250
Low income ( below 60,000)
I attend a private catholic school where an internship at corporate company pays for a majority of tuition.

GPA: 3.75

Essays: I took a lot of time crafting and perfecting them before submitting. I know some people got in without spending an apple amount of time on their essays, but I would recommend otherwise just to be on the safe side. I talked both from a technical and more personal standpoint, and I think that’s something everyone should keep in mind while applying. The essays are your way of presenting yourself to the admission committee, so it’s a good thing the different ways you can approach to questions. Make yourself stand our, talk about something unique.

I think the essays, grades, and recommenders are the deal breakers for SAMS. I was sure I wasn’t going to get in since I submitted on the preferred deadline, but fortunately I was accepted. So, don’t be discouraged if you haven’t heard anything yet or if you get rejected. Use this as motviation and perservere.

@frgiven I know that there are still a few spots left so you might get in. I hope you do. Also I did reply to their email saying I was still interested.

@MM2030 Hi, just to clarify, did you email them a second time after sending the initial email to the Assistant Director? I emailed them 30 minutes after I received my decision to reserve my waitlist spot, but I haven’t emailed them a second time.

@frgiven it was just the initial email.

@AtWitsEnd I’m sorry to hear you didn’t get in. I’ve been rooting for you these past weeks and checked this forum once every few days to hear your updates lol. Good luck for MITES/MOSTEC .

@MM2030 I was also waitlisted on Jan. 30th. I wonder if that means I am going to get my decision very soon.

@AtWitsEnd Ah, sorry to hear that dude. Like @jimjung76, I’ve also been rooting for you. I hope MITES/MOSTEC works out for you.

@jimjung76 @maxiong10 Thanks for the support guys it means a lot! Yeah it was sad news to hear after all this time, but like you said there’s always another chance with MITES so we’ll see how that goes. And good luck to you guys too with all of your endeavors, especially college, which hopefully goes better for us than SAMS did? .

any decisions for AI4ALL out for anyone?

To those who got accepted from the waitlist, how much time did SAMS give you to make your decision on whether you will be attending or not?

@TheMadScientistX Were you accepted!?!

@frgiven lol no.

has anyone not received any decision yet for sams (no waitlist, admission, or rejection)?

got waitlisted a week ago, applied on deadline

submitted application for SAMS and AI4ALL back in Jan. Got a rejection from SAMS (on the portal). However never heard anything on AI4ALL. Anyone else in similar situation?

@ablejoy I am in a similar situation, but if I get in I would have to choose between COSMOS and AI4ALL

@ablejoy @sublimekorean Yes! I also applied in January; I got a rejection from AI4ALL a few days later, but it’s been months and I’ve heard nothing from SAMS. It’s so frustrating because they said decisions would be given within two weeks.
