Carnegie Mellon U vs Southern Methodist U

I know, it seems pretty obvious. CMU duhhh
SMU was my safety school and i never considered going there
until now...

i got a full ride to SMU and its closer to home (which for unlike others, is a bigbig plus for me)
i got half tuition at CMU and its really far from home :(

i know CMU is the waaay better school and i'll get a better education there
but i also really wanna live close to home and go to grad school w/ NO debt (i'm doing pre med btw)

another thing i hate about SMU is their total lack of diversity, which is also a big deal for me. i'm indian and i'm used to being friends with lots of indians/asians and cmu>smu in that aspect.

soo what do u guys think?
should closeness to home/money be the deciding factor in this decision?
or should the quality of education beat out all other factors?

T____________________T

i hate this.

What do you want to study?

But I really can’t think of any major where I’d put SMU above Carnegie Mellon.

How much dept would CMU send you into? If it is less than 25-30k over 4 yrs, then I would choose CMU easily.

i want to do pre med
but i’m not sure what i want to major in yet
and cmu would leave me with around ~40k in debt

i heard cmu was a nerd school and the students basically spend all their time studying? is that true?

Go to CMU. You only go to college once. You want it to be the time of our life, it seems like CMU is the right fit for you.

No-brainer. CMU

Maybe it’s just my perception, but aren’t these two schools about a opposite as you can get in terms of “fit”? Has the OP visited both?

Far from home is a good thing~! Go for CMU
