Carnegie Mellon University Class of 2024 Wait list

Welp, I got wait listed, and so did a bunch of other people. Let’s talk about it.
Feel free to share stats, advice, etc…

Got waitlisted too… just wondering, is priority waitlist an option for all waitlisted applicants?

I’m so confused, so from what I’ve researched the priority waitlist isn’t binding but if you get offered admission, you HAVE to pay them a non-refundable $800 within 72 hours but you don’t have to end up going…?

@RestInPepperonis No.

By May 1st you submit the priority waitlist form.

Sometime in that week they ~may~ ask you for more information.

If you are accepted, you are NOT binded to deposit. However, if you would like to secure a spot, you HAVE to pay their typical $800 deposit fee within 72 hours. Essentially it works like a normal waitlist, just faster.

Yea, last year about 3,000-sh students out of 5,000-ish accepted their spot on the wait list and about 138 were taken off the wait list so I’m debating on whether I should accept my spot on the wait list or not.

Does everyone wait listed get priority wait list as an option or is it only a small portion of the wait list that’s given the option?

@goodmagan I think that everyone has the option of priority wait list.

I was waitlisted. Stats:

Domestic, applied for FA
93.4 GPA at a nationally-ranked boarding school
36 ACT, 11 Essay
800 Chem, 800 Math 2, 800 Physics, 780 Bio M SAT II’s
Decent EC’s, Good recs

Will not be accepting waitlist spot as I deposited at Vanderbilt.

I accepted my spot onto the Priority waitlist, but I wasn’t required to write an additional essay (To update CMU on my accomplishments and such). I thought there was supposed to be an additional supplement? Or is that only for the Regular Waitlist?

@dragon5151draw There is a separate link in the email sent out on 4/10 for Update. Copied from the email: "Please use your Where Am I in the Process? portal to submit the Reply Form and this link to submit the Update Form "

I’ve accepted my priority waitlist spot and sent my update. Should I also send a LOCI or is this update essentialy a LOCI?

@ryanebord54 CMU doesn’t consider any other forms of demonstrated interest. Only the Wait list Update form. So I don’t think you should write a LOCI.

other schools seem to be pulling from the waitlist early, any chances cmu might start now too?

Also, by when will priority waitlist hear back? Is it May 8?

The priority waitlist will start to hear back on May 4th. Per CMU:

https://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/the-waiting-list-frequently-asked-questions

“Initial Waiting List decisions will be available beginning May 4, and all students on the Priority Waiting List should receive their decision by June 1. If admitted from the Priority Waiting List, you’ll have 72 hours to post your non-refundable enrollment deposit of $800.”

Actually, in the decision letter, it says the people on the priority wl would hear back by May 8, and if not admitted by then, they’d be bumped onto the regular one, where they’d hear back by June 1.

When is the deadline to submit the wait list update form?

@archimedes17 May 1.

so uh I got waitlisted for SCS do they take in peeps (im OOS ashian male)

Did anyone get an email regarding an update to the priority wait list?
