Carnegie Mellon University vs. Cornell University (IT field)

Good day,

Which college is better for the undergraduate Information Technology field?

Carnegie Mellon University (Information Systems)
Cornell University (Information Science)

Both colleges have great reputations. However, which one has the better outlook for an individual seeking to find employment in the IT field? I have been accepted into both institutions. The financial or campus aspect of both colleges is not important for this discussion. The important topic is the outcome for majoring in either of the specified majors.

Majors can include Information Technology, Information Systems, and Information Science. (All three of these programs are apart of the Information field).

All commenters are welcome to discuss this topic since this is the only forum comparing both colleges regarding the IT field. If you have attended either of these schools, please converse about your experience going to that college and the outcome you received from it. Are you happy with the outcome? Do you regret your decision of attending the institution or favor it? Please feel free to share your ideas and opinions.

They are all great schools, there is no right or wrong picking one. The outcomes from those two schools are very easy to find a job in IT field. Its a personal choice, one in a big city, the other is in middle of nowhere.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I’d personally pick CMU. Lots of job opportunity and internship opportunity in Pittsburgh. What is the cost difference?

Tuition Information (Out of State):

Carnegie Mellon University: $53,910 USD
Cornell University: $52,853 USD

Both are roughly the equal amount.

I’d still pick CMU. Can your parents afford either school?

As previously mentioned, tuition for either school is not a problem.

Hey! I applied to both of these programs this year but only got into CMU. I’m actually deciding between CMU’s Information Systems and a different school, but one thing that’s I’ve found really interesting and helpful is their career destinations sheet.

Thank you very much for the information!

Pick CMU. And be prepared to work hard and study smart. Serious. CMU is a very tough school, but it’s worth it.

I’d go with which college environment you feel you would enjoy more for the next 4 years. Both schools are great. I’d say my preference is for Cornell.

Thank you very much for the replies!
