Carnegie Mellon University vs The Rhode Island School of Design

Hey guys. I’ve recently been accepted into the undergraduate programs of from both the Rhode Island School of Design and Carnegie Mellon University.

Basically I’m looking to double major in graphic design and illustration and want to spend lots of time studying art in my next four years. Although I am strongly leaning towards going to RISD, should I be rethinking my decision? Maybe Carnegie Mellon has some awesome perks that I might not have heard of?

Well I mean at Carnegie not only do you have the fine arts programs but you also have world class technical programs. I think if you are really set on that traditional fine arts education at RISD though, I doubt CMU has anything that could really pull you away. I made the choice to go to CMU for design over Art Center, but at the same time I didn’t want to be an illustrator but rather an industrial designer.

If I were you, I would go to RISD. Not only is it more selective and prestigious, but it focuses more on what you are planning to study.
