Carnegie Mellon?

I would LOVE to go to Carnegie Mellon (plan on applying ED), I just fear that my GPA might not be high enough.

-Junior
-Male
-African American
-SAT: 1890
-3.2 GPA, 9 AP's by the time I graduate.
-EC's: Vice- president of art honor society (2 Years)
Treasurer- Chess Club (3 years)
Art classes at Hobby Lobby (3 years)
Skateboarding (5 years)
-Intended Major: Industrial Design/Architecture

-Would you mind chancing me for these schools also?
-Syracuse University
-Rhode Island School of Design
-Rice
-Arizona State (safety?)
-Virgina Tech
-USC
-Cornell
-Tulane
-University of Houston (safety?)

Thanks.

Lets look at what Collegeboard has to say about CM

46% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher
29% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
13% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49
9% had h.s. GPA between 3.0 and 3.24
3% had h.s. GPA between 2.5 and 2.99

SAT Critical Reading: 620 - 720 97%
SAT Math: 670 - 780 97%
SAT Writing: 620 - 720 97%

According to this your on the low end GPA and SAT scale… Plus your ECs aren’t that good. Skateboarding is not really an EC, I could put roller blading as an EC then.

Cornell is a reach, and VTech Architecture is a reach, don’t know about the others

So should I even bother applying, or would it be a waste of time?

If the money isn’t a problem then yes why not, it can’t hurt. But your a junior like myself so you have plenty of time to retake the SAT. Get a tutor, read a book, and study for it. If you blow the SAT away you have a chance which is always possible

bump .

Yeah, Rice is pretty much impossible. Your GPA is low but to judge accordingly, I need to know the situation you’re in. Do you go to a really hard prep school? How do your peers fare compared to you?
