Anyone do this before? Is there a certain age limit, I would be 15? Any scholarships, because without one I couldn't afford it? ty

Most who do it are rising seniors, though some are rising juniors. I don't think that rising sophomores attend.

I suggest you use the SEARCH function to search for threads on the CMU pre-college program in drama.....there have been numerous discussions about it here.....but even though you need to do a search, here are just a few links to threads that you should read:

Thanks so much soozievt! I emailed them. It looks like all these programs are for juniors and seniors. I guess I'll do a journalism workshop instead this summer, lol.

There are many programs open to kids your age. You can't just look at "pre-college" ones. Please do a search of summer programs on this forum and the MT forum. There are places like French Woods Festival, Interlochen, Walnut Hill, Idyllwild, Perry Mansfield, etc. where you can do a theater summer immersion program. My own child did a theater program for 8 summers at Stagedoor Manor and is now about to graduate from a BFA college program.

By the way, 15 year olds can do North Carolina School of the Arts summer program.

Are these MT programs? I would need strictly acting programs. I'm not against MT, but I am a TERRIBLE singer and dancer. I'm in theater now, and we did a MT unit and I was so bad. I have no rhythm, lol. I also do film acting and have two agents, do you know of any programs for this outside of LA or NYC? Ty so much!

Also, money is a huge issue. My parents can't afford programs like this. A $1000 is still a lot of money. We are going to go to NY this summer for a wedding and it's going to cost a lot of money. And we usually go on a family vacation.

Any scholarships out there, I really like the NC one but too much money.

I was thinking of Drama when I posted earlier, not MT (though some offer both). The fact is that you asked about CMU pre-college which is very expensive. I undertand the money issue but the ones I suggested are in the same ballpark as what you asked about. You need to do the legwork and ask if any offer scholarships. Scholarships are often based on need. You will have to do what your family can afford. One family may opt to take a summer vacation and another opts to send the kids to summer programs. There are programs for training that may be local or programs that are just for a week and cost less. You need to do an extensive search. It is getting on the late side for this summer.

You see the problem is my family isn't poor. So, I don't think we would qualify for lots of financial aid. We just don't have the money to take out. Also, are family vacations are a lot cheaper. I have done lots of the programs in my area, and there isn't much out there. I am more open for things in the South East, since it's more my area.

Every family is different and every family has various priorities when it comes to money as well. You say your family will not qualify for financial aid. My family DOES qualify for financial aid (we are not poor by any means). Even so, my kids went away every summer to programs all summer at full cost. This was a priority. I notice on another thread you talk about an expensive college not being worth it for an acting degree. I don't agree and my kids went ot expensive colleges for an education. Their chosen major or career had no bearing on the worth of their educational cost. College is more than job training. It has been worth it. And we do get financial aid. So, a family that doesn't qualify for aid could likely also do it if they feel it is worth it.

I don't know if we qualify. We are not in college yet. My mother's friend went to NYU to be a teacher, and is still paying off loans. She is almost 40!!! I think it is worth it depending on what career it is. You don't need an expensive education to be an actor. NYU won't get your kid on a movie, and acting is not like that. It's all about luck and if your D fits the role or not. I have to get a scholarship end of story. I'm going to college for journalism, because you need college degree for that. You can get acting lessons a lot cheaper. Experience is what an actors need. I could go to a top 50 state school for free which is just as good. I just found out that that NC program does have financial aid, but do you know if CM does? Ty for your help.

Anyway, I just want to go somewhere that has scholarships and helps me become a better actor. I'm not going to pay $6,000 for a couple of weeks, and my parents will back me 100%. I just don't know where to look. I just don't want a place in the woods or a camping trip. Any idea's? I do like the CM program, but money is the issue.

I can't do it, I was just reading the application and it stated: Residents must be high school students who have completed their sophomore year and are 16 to 18 years old (born between August 8, 1989 and June 28, 1992). International students must be in the same age range with appropriate visas. Commuter students must be residents of Western Pennsylvania.

They never stated this on the website or on the question and answer. I had to search a lot for this. Also, I think those dates are wrong. You could have completed your sophomore year and have been 16 after those days. I thought the website was confusing, all well. Thanks sooz!
