I would really appreciate any feedback. I heard somewhere that the chance of getting into the flute program at CMU is somewhere around 2%. Could anyone verify that? Thanks a lot.

Vintage, you certainly have the SATs to get into music. However, you should know without posting here that it is the audition that will make or brake you!

It really depends on the year, how many are leaving and how many auditioning. I remember years ago, one of my nephews friends was so upset in finding out when she went to the audition that there were 20 something kids there for one seat, and that was just the one day. But you know, I do know one of the violinists, who may even still be there. She audtioned as a transfer and got one of the coveted seats, so you never can tell. You might want to call the the school and get directed to the right department and get the scoop. You may also want to ask about whether grad students are competing for that spot as well--I think they used to mix them in the orchestra, but am not 100% sure. The web site lists the names and years of who is in the orchestra so that gives you an idea of who is there, and ready to leave. But there is no control over how many are going to be auditioning.
