Hey guys!
So I've heard about this through fb and someone was talking about it at the admitted students alumni reception in my city. Can anyone explain what exactly this program is and why students should apply? Just trying to get an idea of what we'd be doing.

Btw I've been a UNC fan forever and have been to campus a bizzilion times so if it is a program that gets students familiar with campus/unc is it worth it for me to apply?

Thanks so much!!!

It’s run by te Campus Y and was previously called “Camp Freshman” or something to that effect. APPLY FOR IT! Every single person should seriously apply for it because it is AWESOME in so many ways.

1) You get to move into your dorm early (phenomenal for beating the rush, especially if you’re on an upper floor and need to use the elevators)
2) You get to meet 100+ other freshman, learn A TON about Carolina, and have an all around good time. Plus, you get private concerts from some great a cappella groups, information about specific clubs and organizations, and a great general introduction to campus life.
3) The food is awesome (seriously, we had like Panera and Chipotle, it was so great)
4) You get to meet great upperclassmen councilors who can give you more hands on advice about specific programs or extra curricular activities.
5) It is super, super fun.

Anyway, go ahead and apply for it. Space is very limited and it’s a bit hard to get in, so I’d recommend the following: If you’re an OOSer, really, really play up your OOS-ness. Since they have so few spots, they tend to give them to OOSers or students they think might really need the extra time to acclimate to Carolina. Talk about how far away you are from home, how you don’t know anyone, etc. etc. If you’re not OOS, but from a far off or small NC county, play that up. If you’re from Wake/Chapel Hill and/or have strong ties to Carolina, just try to be as funny and genuine as possible. Spend a good amount of time on your application. Don’t rush it.

I seriously loved this program. It’s really great and I so hope that other CC’ers can get in and enjoy it.

If you do Carolina Kickoff, can it take the place of orientation?

If i am going in as a 2nd semester freshman transfer student, can i still do this? i basically am a “first year” OOS

Ajene, no everybody has to go to orientation. This is completely separate from orientation. It’s more to get you pumped up for going to UNC and not at all about getting you to know campus because it is located at a camp about 20 minutes away from campus.

And I am pretty positive it is soley for incoming first-semester freshmen. There is no harm in contacting the co-directors (they are super friendly!!) to ask but I don’t think you would be able to.

I really think everybody should do it. It makes your first few days on campus a lot less scary if nothing else.
