I have a friend who turned down Yale and Brown for the Morehead at UNC and never seemed to regret it. He still ended up in the IB analyst class at Morgan Stanley, just as if he had gone to the former schools.

No matter what you decide, I would advise against rooming with someone who you already know. It will allow for more easily meeting new people that you wouldn't meet otherwise.

You did the right thing by accepting the Morehead. In this economy, how could anyone with a real brain like yours turn down a free ride and then some at an institution as strong as Carolina. To receive and pursue this scholarship is an incredible honor for which you'll be Tar Heel proud your whole life. I bet your parents are happy, too. Best of luck!

Well, I know a couple people who turned it down for Yale, but I definitely feel like I made the right decision. I'm rooming with a girl I only met briefly while on a visit at Carolina, and she's not from my town, so it's not like I'll be running in the same high school circles the whole time. Now I just can't wait for graduation....

Great decision. You can always go Ivy for your graduate degree. BTW there is a fairly active conservative group on campus, small but just as committed as their counterparts.
