I’m a 7th grader applying. I am taking math 5 years ahead, I got a 25 on the AMC 8, really good recommendations, 35 ACT(36M, 35 everything else), 10 years violin, voice, meh essays, on the tennis team, I have made art for a book my school published, 1st place team in state mathcounts, 1st in state mathematics contest, perfect score at regional science fair, student government president, science olympiad top performer, etc.
This is my first post, so plz tell me if any more information is needed
Also, I am in 8th grade honors orchestra
I’m applying as well, and you certainly have better stats than me! You seem like a very competitive applicant.
One thing I would make sure to do is work on establishing a unique identity in your essays. You have quite the variety of extracurriculars, but I don’t really see any passion. Make sure to establish your passion in application. For an example, I want to be a tech entrepreneur, and my extracurriculars are Robotics, My online store, and my programming.
If you think your essays are “meh”, then you can always ask an adult here on CC for assistance. I would help as well, but you probably don’t want a fellow applicant looking at them.
Overall, you sound like an amazing applicant! Even if you don’t get the scholarship, then you should be proud of the things you have done. Again, you are certainly better than me.
This will come of extremely rude if I’m wrong, but are you exaggerating any of your stats? A ACT score in the 99th percentile for high schoolers, a perfect AMC 8 score, taking math 5 years ahead (so 12th grade math?) 10 years of violin, and 1st place in Mathcounts almost sounds unbelievable! If you are truthful, then you are more than qualified to get this scholarship.
No, you are completely fine in questioning These are my real stats. Thank you for your advice! I have been working on my essays so crossing my fingers!
Good luck to you
You too! Welcome to the College Confidential community!
@AlpacaSnake - I am also CDB applicant. You surely have amazing stats. Good luck with your application. Did you also give AMC 10/12?
Oh, thank you so much! I did not give my AMC 10/12 scores, as I didn’t do as expected
Oh, that’s fine. Your credentials are excellent regardless. I had 20 on AMC 8 and 70.5 on AMC 10. What are you currently studying in math?
Good luck with your essays.
I currently take precalculus (accelerated in math), but I am doing a calculus course with Center for Talented youth
ok, that’s fantastic!
Good luck on your application! One more week :\
Thank you very much! Yes, one more week!
Very impressive credentials! Any national award would be help!
Good luck!
Did anyone get any confirmation from the team at CDB that their application is complete? I have not heard anything since I submitted my application during 2nd week of April. I was wondering if I should write to them.
I didn’t get anything either.
@mssweeteaa - thank you for sharing. Let’s hope for the best.
Very impressive stats, @AlpacaSnake. Special congrats on the AMC 8 perfect. You certainly have a chance at the CDB!
Our son (now a current junior in high school) applied a few years ago and was a Finalist in the CDB competition but did not get the award. His stats were similarly impressive, but not quite as high (1530 SAT at 11 years old, 90+ AMC10, etc.). The kids we knew who won generally had something special about them, in addition to just high scores and impressive grades.
Have you heard yet whether you have been invited for the interview??
Hello everyone, has anyone started hearing about this year’s finalists?
@olily2018 No, not yet! I only got a semi-finalist notification. Maybe @AlpacaSnake or @STEMkid345 can weigh in on this?
