Hey CCers. I am going to be an 8th grader in the Fall, and this year I applied for the Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship. The Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship is a full merit based scholarship to any boarding school in the US. It is highly selective, and highly competitive. Unfortunately it is available only to 7th graders. I am curious to hear opinions from any people who have applied for the CDB scholarship before. If you have applied for it in past years, could you say whether or not you were a finalist, what your SAT score was, your ECs, etc.?

Good luck with the CDB scholarship. Both of my daughters applied (years ago) and one was a finalist but did not win the scholarship. They are a very wonderful organization and many BS’s are involved in judging the candidates. In fact my D2 (who was not a finalist) received a letter from a terrific BS asking her to visit/consider applying due to her application to CDB. That school had not previously been on our list but in the end D2 ended up attending that school. Make sure you leave enough time to devote to your application. Even if you don’t get the scholarship you may end up on the radar of a school you would really love to attend!

Thank you very much for the advice and good luck. I have already sent my application to the CDB organization, so now all I can do is wait and hope. Well, either way, it was a good experience to apply and the application is very similar to what a boarding school application may be like. So no matter what happens, I will have gained valuable boarding school insight from this experience. I’m very glad that you replied to to my thread :). I haven’t met too many people who know about it (even here on CC).

My d applied for it this year as well. Not sure what her chances are but on speaking with the foundation, we got the sense that even though it was merit based, they did consider issues like difficulty attending high school in your local area etc due to financial constraints. My impression was that it is merit based but your financial status does play a role in it. The people all seemed extremely nice and friendly. Good luck.

Hey tc12001, if you are okay with it, could you tell me what your daughter’s SAT scores were like, her extracurriculars, her grades, etc. I was just wondering what I am up against because I don’t know anyone else who applied this year. Thank you for the good luck, and good luck to your daughter.

my daughter applied and was selected as a scholar a couple of years ago - it is an amazing program - the people who run the institute and the program are wonderful - and it is merit based - as far as I could tell financial matters did not factor in at all - good luck to all who applied this year
