Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship

Hi Everybody,

As I occasionally get emails from concerned parents and students, I've decided that it's time for me to answer questions more openly. :D

So, here it goes: I'm a 2012 Caroline D. Bradley Scholar, and I'm here to answer any questions you may have! :)

As it is still a relatively small program, I feel like not enough people know about it. Thus, here I am in an attempt to spread the word. The scholarship is an amazing opportunity, and it can really change your life!

Let me explain: the CDBS- which is eligible to seventh grade students- provides day-school tuition to a school of your choice, and places you in a community of your peers. All you have to do is fill out their application, which contains several guidelines.

1) You must be a seventh grade student.
2) Be in at least the 97th percentile in a nationally-administered test (ex. OLSAT, ERB, Stanford 9, etc.)
3) Score at least a 500 in either the math or reading section of the SAT.

Then, you need to get recommendations from several of your teachers, as well as write a few essays describing yourself to those in charge of the program. It's worth it, though, if you get the scholarship. It really is.

You can check out both the Wikipedia page and the program's website by simply typing the scholarship's name in on Google. I would post the links if I could, but- as you know- it's against CC rules.

So, if you have any questions, ask away! I'm happy to help in any way I can.

Cheers,
Lauren :)

So, I know I posted this a long time ago, but I figured I would bump it up just in case any seventh graders happen to be preparing early!

Good luck on finishing up this season’s school/scholarship applications, everybody!

Just curious: Are finalists typically notified at the end of the applicarion evaluation (i.e. June 19) or throughout the period between May-Jun?

Last year, finalists were notified the afternoon before the day given…the rest of us were notified via email the next day…good luck!!!

I hate to bump threads up, but here it goes! To all of you rising seventh graders and parents of rising seventh graders out there, make sure you check this out! It’s definitely changed my life, and I hope it can change yours, too!

Hi,
I’m in 7th grade now, and I’m just wondering if you could chance me. I know how prob have horrible stats compared to most other applicants :frowning: but here goes:
Sat: around 1800
ISEE (two years ago): 9 (for math), 8, 7, 7
Play the piano, violin, flute, and I do two choirs
Used to be on a swim team, on the track team
Grades have always been As/A+s
In debate, quizbowl, science bowl, term council, school Jewish club, key club, and planning to open a club next year
I’ve written for my school newspaper

So what do you think? Should I apply?

Oh, and what if you’ll be applying for boarding schools?

What SAT scores, GPAs, Standardized test scores, and ECs would you need to get the scolarship?

My daughter just found out today she’s a 2015 finalist. We are so excited. I’d be interested to hear anything you have to say about the interview questions. I’ve read the other related posts on CC but eager to hear more. Thanks!

@bookwormsmom congratulations!!!

is this just for 7th graders?

@8thgradekid Yes. Because they want to be involved with the winners during their 8th grade in selecting a high school to start at 9th grade.

"When a student is selected as a recipient of the scholarship, we do require that they subsequently complete their eighth grade year. This space of time enables our staff to work closely with students and their families in determining which school or blend of programs will be the best fit, as well as arrange all of the logistics for the following year. "

I should have known about this earlier, now I can’t applysd

Hi! My son is a finalist (his interview was back in July) this year (2015) and I was wondering when we would hear from the CDB people on whether he has won anything…
