Carribean Versus USF

@birdwatcher32 Short answer: USF

If you are confident that you can study well and earn your admission, first try before concluding that you are going to fail and hence go for Caribbean. Also chose medicine path because you want that than due to any one else’s desire. Medicine is a looooooooooog path and you need to have real passion.

Second USF is not a BS-MD program. It is EAP. Still that is a good choice, if you have got the full ride.

(On a different note, it is not that BS-MD programs don’t expect much EC. The HS kids who got BS/MD have done their fair share at the younger age in HS itself to distinguish and confirm medicine is their career choice)

Have your parents read this post by a retired adcomm member and current professional pre-med advisor–

Or this youtube video which compares the advnatages and disadvantages of caribbean schools https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNEiev66VP8

Advantages:
Easier to get into
Nicer weather
Will accept students any time of the year

Disadvantages:
Less likely to get any residency
Less supportive environment
Less likely to get residency in specialty of choice
More expensive with less financial aid
Less quality control guaranteeing adequate training

The good news is a regular peace Corps assignment is only two years…not three.

Why would you take on that huge debt for a Caribbean medical school with all of the uncertainty of what you will be able to do.

And what “unique” EC does your parents think is essential? That makes no sense.
