Carroll students

Is it true that carroll students are treated as gods in bc??? like superior??

sorry lolz but i just heard it from someone who goes to carroll and i just wanted to find out haha

No, not at all…

No, CSOM students just like to think they are! :)

^agreed. Met a few during my visit earlier. Some are humble. Others aren’t

I think that Carroll is a little more selective overall that A&S, just based on the difficulty of transferring into CSOM. A&S kids love to call it the Carroll School of Money, while we love to call them Arts & Crafts. Nothing wrong with a little rivalry.

Dear discussion and BCEagle12 : For the very last time here on College Confidential, the selectivity difference between CSOM and CAS can be measured in terms of tenths of a percentage point when it comes to constructing the accepted class. While it might serve some purpose to proclaim your business school as more selective, the truth is that the reputation of Boston College actually emerges from its entire campus.

To prove the point, ask a dozen pending college entrants these simple questions : Where is Wharton? Where is Stern? Where is Carroll? Now, ask the questions about Penn, NYU, and BC and see if the recognition rate is the same. In summary, Boston College is about the entire campus, not the individual schools above the campus identity.

Well said.

haha thank u. ^ I agree. Well said.

You can say what you want about CSOM and BC as a whole, but it’s definitely true that people think of CSOM as being more difficult to get into than A&S. I’m not citing statistics obviously (they don’t release them), but this is the common perception. There are many Econ majors especially (who I know personally) who are told to apply as an Econ major and with the intention of transferring into CSOM later. This was told to them by their guidance counselors. So in the end, say what you want, but these guidance counselors must know something about it or else they probably wouldn’t be in those positions.

Given the relative difficulty of transferring into CSOM (versus direct admittance as a freshman), I would argue that these guidance counselors don’t “know something about it” – or else they would not be advising their students to try and game the system. Just because it’s a common perception does not mean it’s not an incorrect perception.

As scottj is an extremely knowledgeable poster, I would readily assume that he is correct. But when it comes to biz schools, like engineering schools, chromosomes matter – a LOT. Thus, while the overall acceptance rates may the the ~same, I would be willing to bet that CSOM is more female-friendly than A&S. I would also bet that the converse is true. Just something to consider. (For AP Stat gurus, think about Simpson’s Paradox.)
