I think there was a topic about cars at Cornell a while back, let me search and I'll post those topics should I find them.

Hope that helps.

Yes, you need a parking permit and must register your car if you plan to have one on campus.

When I was campus permits were $648.

A car is certainly a nice luxury to have. I never had a car at school and I don't regret it.

you don't need a car at all. the TCAT is pretty reliable, give/take two or three minutes and it gets you where you need to go. plus, it's free for freshmen and, after that, only ~$200 for unlimited TCAT rides.

I have a question about transportation... Since there are no airports in Ithaca, I'd have to get to Syracuse every time I want to fly back home for the breaks, what's the cheapest method of getting from Ithaca to Syracuse?

There is an airport in Ithaca...served by US Airways, Continental (?) and for the time being, Northwest. It is expensive to fly in and out of Ithaca so b/c it's such a small airport.

There is an airport in Ithaca, but I highly recommend you go to Syracuse. Last time when I booked a flight with Delta airport (the Ithaca airport is regulated so that only Delta flies from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Ithaca, New York), it was cancelled, delayed, cancelled, and then I sat waiting for 12 hours as a standby. I BARELY made it (sat in the last available seat in that very small airplane). But do check out the information Cornell provides on their website. Very useful.

Edit: Apparently US Airways, Continental (?) and Northwest also fly into Ithaca (Source: dewdrop87).

Thanks for the quick replies, I'll look into it at this very moment.

i got by without a car all freshman year. this year i have a car...great luxury, but its a hassle to park. i really only drive it around after 5 because parking is free. the buses are very very useful, however. i used them all the time last year. but regardless of the weather, i really liked walking through campus. cornell is beautiful during every season

It's better to bike instead, even if it has to be winter. Walking to classes is going to take a good 10+ minutes. Cars is just too much of a hassle (insurance, gas, parking, etc.)

I can't believe Delta Airlines actually goes to my city directly! Better than nothing.

Use Buffalo's airport. Take a bus to Ithaca. Hop on the TCAT and you're back at Cornell. It can save you hundreds.
