Cars/Weekends

Does USC empty out on weekends? or is there enough stuff to do if you're on campus?

Also, do you need a car on campus? An admissions rep told me there's public transportation accessible to students to get around LA, but then all students say you need a car. whats the true story?

I have a friend at USC and she originally did not have her car. However, if you really want to get around LA during the weekend it would be a smart idea to have a car. She had hers sent after she realized she needed it. If you want to go to nearby beaches and coastal towns, I suggest you bring one.

Yeah, it's definitely empty here on the weekends. The campus is jampacked on home football gamedays, but other than that it's usually a ghost town here on most weekends.

Public transportation here in LA is ok, but not reliable (I've already been on several buses that broke down) and some people aren't comfortable with it. It would be very nice to have a car, it will enable you to get off campus more often.

The emptiness depends on where you are. In the freshman dorms, most people stay on campus, because most don't have cars. However, people in apartments etc. may leave more often. Having a car certainly helps, ( I have one, but I go home more often, so I need it), but as long as you have a friend with a car, you should be set.

Yeah... the campus is empty on weekends (excluding football weekends). I live in the dorms, and I'm not bored out of my mind, but my friends and I wish we had more transportation (not enough of us have cars...).

There is always something to do in L.A./SoCal as long as you have money and transportation, even if the campus empties out on weekends. If you don't bring a car, just hook up with a dorm mate who has one and be willing to chip in for gas & parking money.
