The threadon overrated made me think about cars. Which colleges are like Jaguars-- somewhat flashy but not reliable? Toyotas (solid, but not exciting)? Merecedes (great rep, luxury, but some realibility issues)? VW (a little fun, but also a little tricky to maintain)? Hyundai (a little dicier than a Toyota but will get you where you're going and affordable)?

Stanford it's like a ferrari : beautiful to look at(campus) ,fun to drive, prestigious , but no everybody can aford it .

infiniti's - fun to drive, great to look at great prices but underrated by many.

ford, gm and other american cars - 3rd tier.

I suppose Community College is the Yugo. =(

you mean a bicycle.

Hey, bicycles are eco-friendly. Don't knock 'em.

Prestigious colleges are often like the more expensive SUVs (think Escalade). Expensive to buy, expensive to fill up, and you go the same place as everyone else. :p

Mini Coopers are the slightly less prestigious schools that deserve a mention (USNWR 50-100, maybe).

what would Penn State be?

(AND OH YEA A TOYOTA IS GOOD COZ IT LASTS LONGER AND IT USES LESS GAS COMPARED TO OTHR CARS, ESPECIALLY AMERICAN)
THTZ WHY CAMRY IS THE #1 SOLD CAR IN THE USA.

AND WHAT SO GRT ABOUT HYUNDAIS? THEY WERE SO BAD IN THE 90s

Hmmm.....

Vassar/Wesleyan-Toyota Prius. (Green, hippie-ish, more than a little liberal)
UVA-Lexus. (top notch education at an affordable price)
Northeastern-Hyundai (now this might sound weird, but Northeastern has risen in quality and the rankings and blabla pretty rapidly in the last few years...so has hyundai)
Harvard-BMW (overrated)

Hyundai makes GREAT cars.

Doesn't Hyundai have some sort of super warranty. Makes me think of "go to State U. and major in business/nursing/engineering." (Often a good thing, but not for everybody.)
I'm thinking a lot of the schools with a religious affiliation (e.g. Catholic) are Toyotas. But no doubt some are Yugos and some are luxury brands.

i'd say yugos are trade schools because some state schools are actually pretty good.

trade schools and yugos get you where you want to be but doesn't give you much else.

GaTech- hyundai

This is one of the worst threads ever made.

The point is brands are somewhat interchangeable. We make our choices based on quality (real or perceived) and other factors (fun, luxury, prestige, cost, good works, etc). And argue all day long about which is better.
Also, I hoped to get some idea of what a few of the colleges are like by the analogies people made. (Still looking for the Passat.)
